Air Filter Question

Here's a basic question - How often should the air filter be changed?

Do you go by looks to see if it's dirty or do you change according to miles on the car?

Thanks !

The best thing to do is get a K&N filter. It's washable and garranteed (sp)for longer than you will drive your S.

I go by miles to remind me to look at it. If it's not dirty, then I don't clean it out. I have a reuseable filter as well.

I know for a FACT that the last year of production of the S2000 is 2003!!!!!
After that, it will be the S2200 under an assumed name.

I guess I'll be the 3rd to chime in and advise a K&N filter. They only cost about $40, and should last your car's entire life as long as you clean it every once in awhile. I've only cleaned it once since I've had it, and it probably didn't even need to be cleaned.

Clean or replace when dirty is my advice. Everybody drives in different environments so I can't specify on magic number of miles to replace it at.

Different air filters are made from different materials and designs. You may be sacrificing filtration for better air flow. K&N is a well known brand. I would watch out for really cheap quality air filters, as I don't want them breaking apart and getting sucked into my engine.

I'm still runnin' the stock unit n' keepin' an eye on it, but have had some experience with K&Ns n' have always found 'em to be top'a the line. When installin' a K&N you jus' godda realize that it's not a "drop-it-in-n'-fuggeddabouditt" operation. It requires some monitorin' n' very occassional maintenance, not unlike the stock unit.
'Nice to have your input again Matt.
Be well.

In particular a K&N filter MUST be oiled for it to actually filter the air. I also recommend them.

Oiling K&N filters? Do they require a spcial oil? Does it come with the filter?

There is a kit that has the detergent and the oil. You buy that seperately.
