STOCK AIRBOX MODs
I've read all the "stock airbox mod" theories, and they suggest you block off the second resonance chamber. I was wondering why thats is a good idea?
My thoughts are that making that air more accesable (cutting the wall between the chambers, including the 1st chamber) would open up the box more, allowing more air to be used by the engine at high rpms? Right now I have a AP2 with just a K&N, and a snorkel. My next mod is to hollow out the stock airbox correctly and open all the chambers into one, coupled with the snorkel should add higher RPM power, possbily losing low rpm power? Any thoughts??? |

I like the mod. Of course, I didn't actually dyno before or after... Butt dyno says thumbs up!
Here's pics of mine using a green racing 2169 filter: http://www.ottokrat.com/auto/S2000/p...dGreen2169.jpg I'm not doing the resonator block off yet. I'm also not using a snorkel, but have some sheilding over the radiator in front of the stock intake so the intake air won't get heated by the radiator at stop lights.

Thanks for the reply, that filter is huge, any gains from that?
Just thinking about WHY Honda put those baffles and chambers in the airbox to begin with. Best I can figure was to reduce sound, and maybe some cosmetics. Because it is stock now and I still get things stuck to my filter from outside the car, they werent trapped in the 1st chamber like I originally thought. If anyone has opened up the 3rd chamber behind the filter, let me know! |
