Oil Change

Hey guy's

Can anyone tell me if there is a crush washer (drain plug ? ) you have to replace when changing the oil and do you need a special wrench to get the oil filter off? I have a 2004 model.

Thanks

There is a washer and I believe it is recommended that it be changed. However, I just changed oil and did not replace the washer this time. I will probably change the washer next time. The washer looks like it does prevent over tighting the drain plug, since it seems to made of a soft metal. If the filter is not to tight you may be able to just use your hand, but that has not worked for me to may times. There is a special oil filter tool that you can purchase at any Walmart, or auto parts store. They fit over the end of the filter and they come in the size that fits your filter. Then use a rachet to unscrew the oil filter. They cost around $3.00. The biggest problem is getting under the S2000. This was the first time I changed oil in the S2000 it was pretty easy compared to some my other cars.

about changing the washer it's only .20 cents, pretty cheap for peace of mind I change mine at every oil change. Never had to use a wrench just by hand never had any problems with that (don't want to over tighten the filter that will mess up the seal and leak)

Never said use a wrench to tighten the filter just to remove it. Hand tighten according to the directions usually on the filter. The usual directions are to turn the filter 3/4 more turn after the filter gaskets seats. Good idea to change the washer, however I had an Accord and went several oil changes on the same washer. Not cheap just lazy I guess.

Its recommended to replace the washer, but i never have and i've changed my oil every 3 miles for the last about yr and a half and never had anything go wrong. If it ever gets a leak i'll change it.I dont think it ever will though. Your call bro.

The crush washer does not need to be replaced, but if you do reuse it, try to keep the same sides going the same way. The washer gets crushed when you tighten it down and one side will form to the pan and the other side will form to the drain plug. It's a good idea to keep the same sides facing the same way.

As for the the wrench, I use a standard oil filter wrench when I replace the filters.

I know for a FACT that the last year of production of the S2000 is 2003!!!!!
After that, it will be the S2200 under an assumed name.

lol, no. unless whoever said that is refering to a torque wrench. There is a torque spec. for just about every bolt on any car.
