Modding

I have been reading alot on this forum about how hard it is to pull more power out of these cars and how sometimes you can lose horsepower with certin aftermarket parts, which is the last thing I want to do. So for now I am just planning on getting exhaust but my question is, is it worth going straight pipe on the cat??
Thanks.

A test pipe may help a little. It will change the sound some as well.

I know for a FACT that the last year of production of the S2000 is 2003!!!!!
After that, it will be the S2200 under an assumed name.

A test pipe is a straight pipe that replaces the cataletic converter. They are illegal in most areas due to smog requirements.

I believe they're illegal in every state. Fed clean air regulations mandated them.
From Wikipedia (Not necessarily the ultimate arbiter, but in this case, close enough): First widely introduced on series-production automobiles in the US market for the 1975 model year to comply with tightening EPA regulations on auto exhaust, catalytic converters are still most commonly used in motor vehicle exhaust systems.

If you're planning on driving the car on the street, you might consider the possibility of fines and other nastiness if you live in the wrong state and are found in violation of clean-air statutes. Most test pipes are marketed as "off-road use" only. Do a Google search...Google is your friend. In 30 seconds of searching, I found: eBay Motors: Megan Test Pipe Off Road CAT Honda S2000 00 01 02 03-05 (item 180142639742 end time Jul-31-07 16:33:01 PDT)
and APEXi test pipe - Invidia test pipe - Omni Power test pipe and S2000

N' if I may presume to head off the next question: No. They do not come in S2000 colors. (You'll have to stick with the standard choices: brushed aluminum, carbon fibre r' natural unobtainium)
Be well.

The test pipe was fun for a few weeks then it got to be annoying.

If you are into sounding "ricey", the test pipe might be for you.

I now have my CAT back on and I am fine.

Yeah Bat, I prefer my rice in'a bowl too, but even some'a the threads that start out as ricer (shrug)/drag-racer (shudder) stuff sometimes morph into interestin' n' funny stuff.
But then, I've been told that I don't 'zackly "run-with-the-pack" so, it's more'n likely that your view'd be the more popular one. (Sometime back Vez was also commentin' similarly to your feelin's on some posts bein' allowed to run for too long)
I jus' figure that if it weren't interestin' it'd jus' filter on down to the bottom'a the page to fall off into oblivion (although, lately . . I'm noticin' alodda stuff bein' brought back oud'a mothballs n' thrown back up top again)
'Thing of it is . . if their volume ain't intrusive, the language ain't abusive n' they don't throw food more'n a half'a click'a the perimeter of their table . . live n' let live.
(But I make this statement while hopelessly tryin' to hide my fat self behind a telephone pole should it bring any heat)
Be well.

I have a test pipe and sound FAR from 'ricey'.

I guess ricey is in the ear of the beholder

It's just not for me.

Please don't take offense. None was intended.

Ow...southeast Idaho? I never got much farther than Couer D'Alene except when I moved out there to work for Boeing...about 1000 years ago...
