New Car, Oil Change?
Hi all,
This is my first post as I have just joined and will be the proud owner of a brand new S2000 in about 2 weeks time. The car is brand new with 16 miles on the clock, however it was manufactured in November 2006 so it has been sat around for nearly a year. Should the car have an oil change soon after I get it or just go with the usual service interval? Some people say the oil should be changed after a 1000 miles, others say leave it longer as Honda put a special treated oil in at the factory that helps break the engine in. What should I do? I"d alway change oil on a new car at about 1000miles but I firmly believe it likely isn't needed. Why to I still do it? Cause it makes me feel better. I can't think of a reason to change because the car has been sitting unsold for a time. Maybe some one else will come up with a reason. John H

I'm with Bub. 'Ain't no real reason to change that oil.
Any condensation that might'a resulted will be taken care of in the first few times the engine comes up to normal operational temps. The oil's jus' been in a different container'z all. But, that's encounter-group honest Bub: it makes me feel better too. I'd be more concerned about the possibility of condensate in the gas tank, but I believe hi-octane'll swiftly deal with that. That's what I've heard too, is that there are additives in the oil that are put in to help break the motor in which is the same reason it gets changed out real fast.
Most winter storage tips list changing the oil and filter prior to storage, but do not mention changing it after. Leads me to believe that letting oil sit for a while is okay. |

i agree with these guys, change at about 800-1200 miles and if your going with synthetic then AMS oils 5w-30, they have the best lab resaults for sythetics for s2k, mobile1 got second.

I disagree with what has been stated. Honda recommends not changing the initial oil until 7500 miles, check the manual. I also would not go to synthetic until after 10,000 miles. This exact situation has been discussed at length at both S2KI and S2KCA and these are the general recommendations. It's your car though, so do what you feel you should.

LOL,
Cheers guys. Now I'm even more confused/not sure what's best to do! I will see how the engine feels after a couple of hundred miles, I'm told it's going to drink oil like petrol anyway for the first few thousand miles so in a way it will be getting changed anyway. I've found very few instances when I didn't agree with Go (There's our different takes on the RX8 n' the use'a the cover for the top. Yep. 'Think that about covers it) so Ma Hondas Magical Initial Break-In Oil gets my vote too. Ma put it in the manual. Ma requires it for warranty coverage n' Ma don't take kindly to any back-talk. "Ain't momma happy, ain't nobody happy". Even before Ma Honda's direction of keepin' Ma's own for what? 7500? the proper way to switch an engine over to synthetic was to first break it in with regular dinosaur juice for at least the 10 thou that Go says. I always favored 15 to 20 thou for a proper break-in, but I know alodda folks use'ta go with that magic 10 thou. N' I believe that those dinosaur juice particulates (Weren't they 50s Rock-n'-Rollers? Slick Duckzass n' the Particulates?) r' what does the required smoothin' that the synthetic doesn't allow. So, until that magic number of 7500 that Ma insists on . . I wouldn't go doin' anythin' but add some good dinosaur juice. Be well. Java

yea merlin is right, i agree with you too, i forgot about not changing it straight to synthetic right away, but i dont think i would wait 7500 miles to do the first change... maybe 5000.
