p1456 trouble code
So, I've searched other threads on this (P1456 fuel tank leak), and the general consensus is it's a loose gas cap. I got the code yesterday, tightened the cap properly (did seem to be loose), but it was mostly all the way on. I drove the car the rest of the day, and all day today and the light is still on. How long does it usually take for a CEL to clear itself if the problem is corrected? I thought about just buying a new gas gap, decided to wait a couple more days. Hoping that normal driving won't hurt the motor with this CEL on. I could disconnect the battery and reset the code, but I don't want to clear the light temporarily and have the CEL come back on the morning of our group drive to MT. Palomar. Any advice is appreciated, Thanks.

it has taken my car a week to reset. If it bothers you that much pull the battery terminal to reset te ecu. If you have a stock radio make sure you have the code handy to get it to work again.

If you don't have the radio code, you can hook up a 9 volt battery to the the cables or use a battery charger if you have one handy.

According to the software I have, the P1456 is the manufacturer control auxiliary emissions control (fuel tank system): i.e. gas cap.
It should reset itself after a few drives. If not, try a new gas cap. |
