I commute mostly, and trying to save gas (coasting lots, cruise when able) I got 28 in my AP1 (22 when I had time to have fun on weekends). Driving with the same behavior on my AP2 this last month I haven't beaten 25, even without fun weekends...

Sorry, my figures above were way out, I forgot to convert £ to $...doh! We're currently around the $8.44 per us gallon at the moment. Breaking that down we pay 80% tax and duty on petrol in addition to road tax (around $500 per annum). If you want to live or travel through London we also have a wonderful thing called a congestion charge currently around $100 per week if you drive anything that doesn't run on bananas.
I think emigrating may be the only way out of this madness!

Okay, I don't often bother to check my mileage, but over the weekend I ran a fairly good distance up to Conn. in movin' traffic, n' when I got where I was goin', I found that I'd used jus' over half the tank (I'm goin' by a gas gauge, so don't expect rocket-science here, okay?). No big deal. 'Figured that I'd hafta fill up on the way home.
Left kind'a late n' traffic was relatively light. 'Made it home (For the figurin' impaired . . . that's the same distance.) with about an eighth tank left. 'Think that Stewie's mileage is succeptible to traffic? 'Think that there's Federal grant monies available for a study'a this? Oh, n' all readin's were taken on level ground. Be well. Java

update on fuel economy.
11.2 gallons at fillup- 319 miles. My fuel economy is actually improving the more i drive this car. 10k on a 5+ year old car---maybe I'm the guy that actually gets to break it in. I'll let you guys do the rocket science of figuring out the mpg, but for sure i'm satisfied with what i'm getting. regards, jagg |

I think we're losing one here, and I think I remember a recent reference to the desire for a 6 cylinder Maverick.
Jagg, you better go have that checked out and let us know if it's contagious. We need to get shots.

Tires $ Fuel
This newbie stewie owner here has been through 3 tankfulls and I'm gettin' about 23 MPG, combined highway (usually turning about 3.5 grand in 6th) mixed up with the horrible Long Island, NY traffic.
Speaking of tires....my 05 with 6400 miles on her when I got it has stock Potenza's and to my untrained eye they look about half worn. Is that about right? When it's time for new shoes whats the groups recommendation? Thanks!

Just got my 2000 SP1 bout a month ago and did a trip to NC & TN hittin the twisties in the Smokies and Deals Gap driving the car like I stole it and got 28.5 & 29.4 mpg. Rarely got above 4th gear. Was really impressed. Well now doin the daily 60 mile round trip commute to work drivin 60-65 miles per hour, highway, no traffic, I'm gettin 27 mpg. Go figure.

Pablo, regardin' your tires: at 6400, your half-spent assessment would be about, 'r, jus' very slightly shy'a normal.
Mr. Scott: Engage the COPOD (Clause, Official Personal Opinion Disclaimer) The stock 'Stones are terrific tires n' well mated to Stewie. There r' some tires that're better in the rain, but only a couple that might give slightly better performance in the dry, n' that at the expense of lesser tire life (Which is what the tires r' all about, innitt?) But, like alodda other parts'a the Stewie design, they were given considerable thought by Ma Honda. Probably the best way to find out the most current what's-goin'-on with tires n' satisfy any questions you might have would be to consult the guys at TireRack. I can't recommend 'em strongly enough. If there's somethin' new out there that does any aspect of goin' 'round n' 'round better than any of the others, they'll know about it. They (And some'a the more together car mags) also do testin' of the available tires back-to-back-to-back-to-back, with the same professionals doin' the testin' n' ratin' all the different aspects to give a pretty good overall view for us to make our decisions from. 'Cause most'uv us all got our own favorites which we'll defend like our favorite football franchise, but ain't alodda us with the ability (Read: money to buy a number of full sets'a tires), 'r, the time (Read: time) to do the research that somebody like the TireRack can do. Tap their considerable knowledge on the subject. Be well. Java

ran across some frozen water in the roadway several times, and the stewie tracks well on the zero friction surfaces. I had the bridgestone RE 050 runflats on my last roadster, never got any more than 12,000 miles out of a set, and when they got really worn out, the handling would get downright twitchy. I pushed them to nearly 14,000 one time and they turned into the worst set of boloney skins you ever saw. I've never used the 050's without the runflat option, but when they were fresh and the weather was warm......good stuff. On a 1/4 inch of snow they were deadly. regards, jagg |

My driving is combined 50/50 highway/city. I guess its slightly better than the 16mpg my BMW 540 was pulling in that I sold to buy the "S". Plus, the "S" is much more fun to drive!

I know this might sound crazy but After I put the Volk TE 37's ( 11.3 lb) on, air intake , lost my spare and one muffler I got 32 mpg on the highway.

I've always noticed the gas mileage increases after I use some Redline SI-1 and when using Shell V-Power.

my mileage has been 21-25 mpg--5280 feet to the mile--128 ounces to the gallon. i have been told that full vtec offers 5
mpg--that tends to kill one's mileage. i have heard of 32 mpg on long hauls with cruise.

Well there's the answer to the high cost of gasoline. We just need more ounces put in each gallon.
A wise man (I believe it was Groucho Marx) once said, "The answer to inflation is the 7 cent nickel."

I average somewhere between 24 and 25 MPG. One tank usually gets me around 240-270 miles depending on where Im driving. I think its just mostly about how easy you are on the throtle while you're accelerating.
Here's a chart and graph that I keep for my MPG. ![]()

Dude, you got too much time on your hands! But that's cool you take the time to do that. I did it with my first car back in '77.

I still havent been able to break 300 miles on a tank other than at break-in. Wonder what the dealer put in that thing

I have kept a log for every vehicle I have owned since 1984. Something I learned from my grandfather.

I'll just drop my .02. . .
10,345 miles, lowest mileage was 23.25 (which is my usual mileage, wife driving to and from work, small town, very little stop and go). Best trip I got 29 (average driving to Denver and back from eastern Utah. FREQUENT forrays into the V-tech zone passing oil-field trucks on two laners. VERY MUCH FUN). |

Okay, I figure it takes me about 11.5 or so gallons to fill up, and I usually get a range of 350 miles per tank. I drive hard, but also long expressway runs......go figure.

this might sound CRAZY and unbelievable, but I got 160 miles to a FULL tank. Thats like what? 13mpg? WTF is right! maybe I should have started this thread. Best I have ever gotten is like 220 miles to a full tank and thats some slow and easy highway driving! any ideas or recommendations?
I have recently changed ALL my fluids! the pcx filter, air filter WHAT ELSE can it be? I have a 2000 with 91k miles, should I do a valve adjustment or something? |

PARTY FOUL!! If you got 214 miles on the day of a track day, you aren't driving hard enough. I got 100 miles out of a full tank my last full track day.
On the flipside, I drove home from Sacramento last weekend after a weekend of wine tasting and aggressive mountain road driving and I got an unbelievable 321 miles in 11.7 gallons the first full tank after hard driving. I've never had more than 285, but I've always noticed significant increase in gas mileage after a track day. Doc...bottom line is you need to drive it hard for an EXTENDED period of time. Can i borrow your car next month for Laguna Seca??

Hey Doc, if it makes you feel any better, my S drank a fullt tank of 100 octane in only 2.5 sessions at Laguna Seca, a total of 85 miles. I filled up to do sessions 4 & 5 and then felt the cracked rotor on my warm up lap. I spent $75 on the tank for nothing! Looks like I'll have to burn it all off on this weekend's mountain drive
