I drove my 02 s2k from Lubbock to Dallas(250 miles or somthin) i go about 85 most of the way, when i was nearly to dallas the clutch started to stiffen up real bad and get sticky at the floor like it didnt want to come back up. Anyone have any idea what would cause this? or what could be wrong?

Sounds like the pressure plate in the clutch is failing.
I would say check clutch hydraulics first, of course, But when the pedal is stiff on the way down, it's an indication that the plate is binding. When the pedal stuck to the floor afterwards, it's an indication that the pressure plate collapsed, and stayed there. (barring poorly operating clutch hydraulics, but it doesn't sound that way) It may work after it cools all the way down, but if the clutch master and slave cylinders are operating to design, then for sure you've got a bad plate, and it's only a matter of time before it collapses and doesn't return, rendering the car virtually undrivable. good luck, jagg |

Hi Folks, first time, long time. Im experiancing the same problem with my newly purchased 2002. The clutch was replaced about a month ago with no trouble until today, it doesnt stick drasticly but I noticed the slight difference immediatly. Also the third gear upshift is grinding, syncro gears Ive read. Now the Jap tech recommends installing a 40000 mile used rebuilt trans. to avoid doing one job and avoiding future problems. 1700. estimate. Please Help.

Hi Gang, followed the advice for a second opinion. This time with local dealership, instead of a smaller shop, dealer charges 1100. for syncro repairs. $600. more gets me a 6mo warranty and a rebuilt trans. with 40,000 miles with the local small shop. also on one of the supporting sites they offer a rebuilt spoon tranny with tighter specs over the stock tranny for 2600. What do you guys think? I just want whats best for my baby and spending my duckies wisely is a priority. The wife is highly tuned in on how much money is going into the car. Thank you
