Rough Shifting

I have an 05 Stewie. I bought it used so I don't know what the shifting is supposed to feel like. When I purchased the car at 10,000 miles it was rough shifting from 1st gear into 2nd and 2nd into 3rd. The dealer after much consultation with the tech support decided to change the type of transmission fluid.

Now the car, when cold, is still rough shifting from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd. After it warms up; however, it's smooth shifting from 1st to 2nd, but still rough from 2nd to 3rd.

The dealer is telling me that the next step is to take the transmission appart. I really don't trust the dealer to take my Stewie's transmission appart, because they have messed up much simpler jobs in the past.

The dealer assures me that their technicians are more than competent to handle the job. WHAT SHOULD I DO?

It doesn't shift smooth because the fluid is thicker when it's cold and doesn't lubricate as well. Once it heats up, it thins and does a better job. To me, that is normal. All engines are that way and that is why they say to "let it warm up" before going balls to the wall. Don't let the dealership touch it. There's probably nothing wrong with it. Just give it a chance to warm up...just like the engines, tires, and brakes. They all work better when warm.

You say it still is rough shiftin even after its warm from 2nd to 3rd, let the dealer fix it.Those honda techs are good guys usually they have a guy that works on s2000s all the time so when one comes in hes the man. Plus if its free why not.

'Sounds like you've jus' godda find a better dealership with more qualified personnel Jb. If it's still rough after a fluid change, maybe, rather than jumpin' into the operation, find another dealer, explain the situation n' make sure it gets serviced properly. Do whu'cha goddadoo to assure that it's seen to by a competent, up-to-date on Stewiestuff knowledge wrench.
If a second fluid change doesn't fix the problem, I don't see any option but to go in for the operation. At least if you've already sought out the qualified wrench, you can rest a little easier while your ride's on the table.
Be well.

I would change the fluid and see if that helps first. If that doesn't work, then take it to Honda.

I know for a FACT that the last year of production of the S2000 is 2003!!!!!
After that, it will be the S2200 under an assumed name.

i know alot of honda techs and was one myself once, but what i have been told is that is norm for the s2000's. they call it a characteristic of the car, i have the same problem and yeah once it warms up then it goes away. my tech friends said that everyone with one has the same problem, and at first they started pulling trannys out and trying to fix them and that did work. so then they started replacing them and the new ones had the same problem.

the same thing happens to my car at first. If I start beating on it then it shifts smoother but until then it is harder to shift.

I really appreciate your responses. The dealer was ready to pull the tranny to try to fix it, but I think I will leave it alone.

Thanks again for everyone's response.
