lol o yea sorry,
yea its coming from around the timing chain area but i had a couple diffrent mechanics take a look at it and say the chain looked fine the car only has 45k miles on it the funny thing is after i changed the air filter(to a k&n filter) and oil ( royal purpal 10w 30) the amount of times i heard the noise dramatacly droped to now it only happens maybe two or three times a week. It's probably too much good fortune ta ask for, but by any chance did it happen while one'a the mechanics, 'r possibly yourself, had the hood open? What I'm fishin' for here is that you're certain it wasn't the fans r' somethin' other than in the area of the actual front of the engine.
(Hmmmm-m-m-m-m . . . where is everybody today?)

That's an idea Java. If some thing is actually hitting the fan (or the other way around) that would make the exact noise he is mentioning. Java's right, check the fan area.

did the dealer actually mention why they recommended an oil change?
(Do they think you've got a hydraulic lifter bleeding down overnight, having trouble pumping up cold?) I was under the impression that the 2.0 didn't use a timing chain...I thought it was a straight up, gear to gear setup to keep the crank in sync with the top end. (i've never bothered to find this out, anybody know?) You figure if something was hitting the fan blades, hot or cold wouldn't matter all that much. It would tend to be more of a dynamic issue. It would tend to come and go as things shifted around while driving. I would also take a close look at any exhaust system shielding, as it can also make that kind of ticking noise under the right circumstances. Best recommendation: let a mechanic see this car on cold start. Hopefully you've got a twig lodged in the front end somewhere, intermittanty touching something that's moving. good luck, jagg |

We have hydraulic lifters? I know exactly what you mean, we used to use marvel mytery oil on them, for what that was worth.

thanks for the suggestions
umm the car made the noise before i bought it but i told the dealer to fix it and the day i bought it i test drove it again and it was fine (no noise) so i bought it but when i got back from the dealer, it started the noise again, and i live about 3 hours from the dealer and on top of that they screwd me over telling me well its my problem now they didnt cover it even thou they sold it to me that way knowing about it. the dealer suggested a oil changed supposably what he said "if the car has the wrong wieght oil it could make that noise" go fig i didtnt no that but yea and i dont think its the fan because the noise is in like if you were to stand nexst to the car it would be if you were looking at the spark plugs right in that back left hand area, you would here it pritty much some were around that section of the motor? thnx again guys the moral of the story is dont buy cars from new york lmao Last edited by Java Junky : 11-30-2007 at 07:39 AM.
