Transmission Fluid
I have a 05 Stewie. I have a problem with notchiness when going from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd. Someone recommended switching the transmission fluid to AMSOIL MTF 5W30. I don't have the tools or facilities to change my own fluid, so I called around.
The response from the shops that I called was that they couldn't do it, because Honda did not recommend 5W30 for my Stewie. Is there any validity to their response? If 5W30 is what I should be using, and a certified shop won't do it, I can ask a friend to do it. I just want to make sure that this synthetic transmission fluid will be good for my car. Thank you in advance for your response. José Last edited by Jbeni96 : 12-01-2007 at 06:10 PM. |

Can't go wrong with Honda MTF. There's a reason Honda puts it in there.

Agreed. Go with the new Honda MTF.

I use this stuff i get from Acura. Just cause my buddy is the parts guy there. Its a new formula they just came out with. Pretty much smoothed out my trans. but i had 50,000 before i changed it, may just be because its a fresh fluid. And yes, just for the record i know acura is honda.

We're dealing with synchromesh here. It needs the right amount of friction to do it's job.

went from whatever was in the tranny to the new Honda MTF and all I have to say is WOW
I was having alot of probs going into first from a stop, and from 2nd to 3rd was rough I changed to the Honda MTF and its been smooth sailing since (I'm glad I changed it before all the runs up Palomar Mountain) Honda wouldn't tell you to use it if it was crap |

It is so nice to have so many people willing to provide assistance. Thank you so much for all your responses. I think that I will stick to OEM or maybe try the new Honda MTF fluid.

The syncrhos need a certain amount of friction to do their job. They synchronize. If you ever drive a car without them(like the early Porsche) you'll know the difference. Doesn't much matter if you use the clutch or not. Except to start up, of course.

i like gmsmfm(Gm syncrho mesh friction modified) and honda mtf..but right now im using the gmsmfm from chevy made for the corvette...i really think it has a litle edge than the honda mtf...and i say its number 1 tranny fluid for s2k and next is honda mtf and the rest of other tranny fluid are worthless for my expeience of trying many tranny fluids for the car. but this is just me...
