-FINE-

New oil, sound is still there.. drove it all the way home.. CAR RUNS FINE, FAST SAME AS ALWAYS, JUST LOUD AS HELL.. KNOCKING,, ITS ANNOYING..

If your oil was REALLY low, it doesn't matter if your car only has 5 miles on it, you can do some serious damage pretty quickly.

Do you ever check your oil?
Why did you keep driving it when the light came on?
Why did you keep driving it when it started knocking?

In most engines, the first thing that starts making a knocking noise from lack of lubrication is the connecting rod bearings. You could also have main bearing damage, crankshaft damage, piston ring and cylinder damage, camshaft damage, etc. .........you get the idea.

LOL

You think hondas can run without oil? Maintenance could have avoided this. That motor is trashed.

As with any engine - by the time the oil light comes on it is already too late.

That is not a low oil level light. It means no oil pressure. It seems you toasted your engine with total abuse.

I'm cringing reading this thread Aladdin........I really hope it works out for you, but these guys aren't joking when they express that it sounds like your engine's fubar.

good luck,

I would avoid oil change shops. Some are pretty shady. The oil should be checked every time you gas up.

Ah, sorry 'lad, the oil light isn't a warning, it's the signal for a wake... Sam, I'll take the first round, then Al's buying the rest of the night. Everyone... "Oh, Danny Boy"

Seems like in this day of high tech monitoring of virtually everything an engine does, why doesn't it just shut down when low oil pressure is detected?

Also, it's odd that a performance car doesn't have an oil pressure gauge. The idiot light is a warning for your wallet.

It's not such a big deal if the light comes on, it's just really important to stop driving it when it does. That was the "duh" moment.

For sure, the parameters under which the oil pressure sending unit on the block operates, are designed to turn on the light long before the engine detonates.

Aladdin didn't say that anybody saw any leaks.........my guess is he's got a few quarts of oil in his coolant. The "slight" camshaft noise (i can't imagine how this was determined) was the warning......not the light.
This engine likely broke long before, and was driven till it croaked.

I agree jagg, the cam noise should have been the warning to check things out. The rod knock reminds you that you screwed up when you didn't check the cam noise.

Quote from the manual.........

"Running the engine with low oil pressure can cause serious mechanical damage almost immediately. Turn off engine as soon as you can safely get the vehicle stopped."

I hope its not a rod... Its being checkout..

Ok the thing of it is... I am driving normally so i didnt know... I mean there was a ticking noise but not much.. I was just going to get an oil change I figured it needed one even though I changed it about 2500 miles ago.. the next day the ticking becomes knocking as the oil 'pressure' light comes on.. This happens on my way to the shop.. At first I heard it i freaked out.. then i thought logically.. low oil... ok... noise?? ok, PISTONS... pistons wht? they are hitting the side wall cus there isn't enough lubrication where the piston sits.. ok oil change.. fine did it.. noise...? still there...

DAMN-- was bout to cry, cus I had a eclipse with a similar issue.. I knew where this was goin...

ok so new oil.. noise still there.. finally get it to my mechanic.. He said that it could be the valve lifter.. in this case it can be fixed... or valves need adjustment.. etc..

If the sound comes from the top, im good.. if its comin from the bottom (pistons) new motor time.. NEW MOTOR?? 3-6 large...

so yea.... praying.......

Take this time to sit back and read the owners manual. There is plenty of good information in there. The part about checking your oil with each fuel fill up is there for a reason.

I'm wondering where the oil went in 2500 miles. Maybe the oil change place neglected to fill it or left the plug loose. I'd use a good synthetic like Mobil 1 and change it less often. Who knows what they put in your car? If you were using that much oil it should be smoking.

I agree that the car should have more and real gauges, including oil temp and volt meter.

Unless you are pretty talented I would bring the motor to an engine builder. Tell him you ran it out of oil and he will know what to check.

Or wait for some other young gun to wrap an AP1 around a tree and buy what's left. That happens often enough.
