Vtec question

I see Hondas (other than stewie) have vtec engines. Are they like our ap1's and ap2's? I never poked my head in one to see if the redline was at 9000 (or 8k for you ap2's). Just wonderin' what the difference is.
Thanks,
Jimbo

check the specs and see where the max horsepower and torque fall..they may be VTEC but they're not the same engine as the S2k...Momma Honda loves to spread the wealth around.

yes, many of vtec, variable timing electronic lift control... the civic si and rsx type s, cars of this nature are like stewie, where you can feel the vtec engage at a certin rpm level(5800). but cars with not as aggressive lobes dont have the hard pull from there out. so, diffrent. not for power but also for good gas milage.....

Our first Honda (1994 VTEC Prelude) had it. None of the other Honda cars have as high of a red line though. I believe most of Honda's cars have it now.

I know for a FACT that the last year of production of the S2000 is 2003!!!!!
After that, it will be the S2200 under an assumed name.

02+ RSX Type-S (redlines around 8000) 200hp 2.0L
07ish Civic Si (same as RSX-S) 197hp 2.0L
92-93 Integra GS-R (redlines around 7800) 160hp 1.7L
94-01 Integra GS-R (same as 92-93) 170hp 1.8L
97-01 Integra Type R (redlines around 8000) 180hp 1.8L

Rode in a new FIT today. Vtech and I think about 6500 red line.
Very impressive little car. Typically Honda, bigger inside than outside. How do they do it? Nicely finished and peppy with stick 5 spd.

I've had a couple of Acura's and I know for sure that my current one a 2003 TL has a VTECH (says so big as day on the engine) and I think the others were too.

Best regards
Pablo

Hey Congrats. The TL's are really nice cars. Very quick actually, and I bet your "S" type is even better. The handling is not up to Stewie standards but darn good for a sedan. The one I have now is my 3rd Acura. Damn I love mother's creations of both 2 and 4 wheeled variety.

One word or caution. Keep an eye on the tranny. The 03's had tranny issues. Mine died at 33,000 miles. It was replaced under warranty........thank goodness. I believe the dealer told me if I had to pay for it it would have been over 5K.

Have fun and best regards
Pablo

Those Tl type S are sweet, probably the only sedan I would ever own.

pardon my asking, but after so many years of seeing an H tacked onto VTEC, I was thinkin about it today...

VTEC stands for Variable valve-Timing-and-lift Electronic Control. There are no H's in that at all, so where do so many people get the H from?

Especially an enthusiast such as yourself who has looked at his engine to notice the 4-letter abbreviation on the valve cover

Ahhh, just 'cauz I post on an enthusiast's site, does not mean I can SPELL! I suppose I could justify it is an error generated by the common usage "tech" as in "technology"........or maybe just cauz my damn spell check does not pick up the damn error. Picky, Picky, PICKY.....

FYI there may be one of those "secret" 100K factory warranty's on the tranny of the 03 TL. I hope you never have trouble, but you may want to check it out just in case.

Ahhh, back to vtec vs. vtech. Thus the crux of my other (lame) thread "Vtech question"
