I strongly disagree, I have been using a shift light in road racing for over 28 years they work very well. You can set the desired shift point in todays shift lights to let you know right when you want to shift, and you dont have to take your eyes off the road. Think about it, you know where you engine hits the power band at the low end. however, you must look down to know when you reach the max end. In many cases you cant even hear the sound of your own engine,(due to the other engines close by),so it is a god send. I have always placed mine at eye level so when the light go off about 200 RPMs below red line there is no way I can miss it. I would really like to know how to splice in the signal wire. If anyone knows how to do this please let me know.

I disagree that a tech is better then a shift light. You have to watch the tech. The shift light has a very bright light and lets you know right when it is time to shift. This does not mean I dont use the tech. I use it when I am going to stay in the 6-7500 range for a prolonged amount of time. However, when I am running thru the gears and I need to watch the road and cars around me I use the light. As I press on the gas the RPM build quick, Very quick, the light makes sure that I dont short shift or hit the rev limiter. Its that simple.
