Shift Points

I thought that this might be an interesting poll.

What is the primary way you determine your shift points?

Darn it I hate my typos. I don't care if you sift your flour when you bake a cake! It should have read "SHIFT" points. UUghhhhh~ couldn't figure out how to fix it, sorry.

I would have to say Tach for me because it is kinda hard to hear the car when I have my radio on. That or I will feel it out. Depends on how I am driving.

I go by feel when I'm drivin, when racing I use the tach to shift at redline.

It would suck if you only went by sound because if you switched your exhaust system it would take you awhile to get used to it again...
Also going from a regular car into the s2k with the higher redline would throw you off, unless you only rode street bikes...

There y'all go makin' me think again.
Never use the tach 'r any'a the other red number stuff: don't like droppin' my vision from the movie bein' played on the big screen. Readin' the stuff on'a dash'z like readin' subtitles when ya already know the language.
Feel (though, evidently my feeler'z on'a fritz, as, by itself, it's had me bouncin' off the rev-limiter on more'n one occasion) n' sound. Sound'z usually the best as it usually gives me a little buffer-zone before I bounce it off the rev-limiter. Most'a the time.
Good poll Pab.

Very interesting. I said all of the above, because it really depends on my mood, where I am going, and how fast I am trying to get there. Changes all the time

This is an interesting topic.....It just seems to occur naturally, in a subconscious kinda way....... 'N practice does make perfect.

It there's anything going on in my brain while REALLY driving, it's this:

BRAKE, SHIFT, TURN, BALANCE, ACCELERATE, UNWIND.......eyeballs on the next apex......repeat as necessary.

I'm hoping a few of you out there are catching what I'm throwin' here.

Well Java, I hate to admit it but for the first time you have driven me to 'google' one of your posts to derive a clearer meaning. And I'm STILL kind of stumped... I think I have a general gist of what you're saying, but care to elaborate?

If I am catching what you mean by Balance that sounds quite similar to the way I drive.

(There ya go makin' me thnk again. 'Hate thinkin'. 'Hurts.)

Mercuric, adj. Of, relatin' to, 'r containin' mercury with a valence'a +2.

Usually used in reference to a fluid, kind'a hard'ta grab holt'a individual. Not someone that you wanna see at the opposin' end'a the mats. Vaporous. Spectral. Now-ya-seeitt, now-ya-don't. Dunno 'bout no bee, but definitely float-like-a-buddafly.

A good question Pablo. I voted "combination of the above."

However my mood is usually a factor. I think SXY_S2K mentioned that as well. When I'm feeling aggressive (read that as "sporting mood") then my ears & eyes are all involved. (I just LOVES da sweet sound of the exhaust !)
And that pretty tach arching it's way to the redline is sweet too.

But for casual driving I listen to the sound of the exhaust.

I like to believe that I can drive by feel.
Being an accountant by trade I can't stand to see anything in the red

Cheers

i catch myself doing a combo of them all. i guess it just depends on how i "feel" like driving. when im just going for a nice drive i will go by sound, the few times i race the car i will go with tack and feeling, depending on if im taking corners and other driver around. the only time i have looked at miles per hour is when i wanted to know at what speeds good strong shift points are.
