My check Engine light comes on all the time but it is ALWAYS my Gas cap. I had a particularly envigorating drive to Costco today to get gas while it was on and it flashed... But I need more info, Engine noises? Revs?, Idling problems?...

Go to Auto Zone, Kragen, etc. and have them pull the code. The car is telling you something isn't right and you are not helping the situation by continuing to drive it. It may be nothing big, but you will not know unless you get it checked.

Trust me Java, I baby my car more than anyone else I'm sure, but since I have the luxury of being (about to) married to a Honda Service Manager, I have inside knowledge to any (rare) service lights that happen... And for some strange reason, I have an ailing gas cap that although Honda branded tends to back itself out and become loose for no apparent reason...

"I'd whoa-up 'til ya know whut's ailin' the li'l filly.
(That Bud'z fer you SXY)" I meant the barrel-racin', hat worn max-back, straw-stalk in yer teeth talk SXY. Not the personal opinion about disregardin' an engine lite. Sheesh! N' you had such a nice horsey flick, I'd'a thunk you'd'a know'd. Ya know, it jus' occur'z ta me . . maybe Budweiser beer ain't nothin' but a local beer n' you've never heard the famous "this bud'z fer you". If that's the case, then I'm bein' unintentionally confuzional. Whoops! Java

Hey I-Drive......so Bavarian.
As a rule a "flashing" check engine (or service engine soon, on yer GM stuff) lamp on the dash would be an indication that the E.C.M. is trying to warn you that imminent catalyst failure conditions are present. -----lots a raw fuel down the tailpipe, usually a dead miss. Should be checked right away. regards, jagg |

Flashing check engine lights are the sign of a major problem, like mentioned before. You should never drive the car if the light is flashing, especially revving it high because you can potentially ruin the engine.

I agree with gomarlin, go to any auto parts store that offers check engine light service. There are places that charge crazy hook up fees (up to $100.00) just to tell you its your gas cap. Good Luck.

Flashing check engine light is a misfire. The cause is another story, could be plugs, coil pack or even an injector. It's possible for the light to flash and not code. If the light stays on, there is a code in there, get it and let us know what we can do to help.
