AP1 68mm Throttle Body Review

I just got done installing my 68mm Skunk2 throttle. It took about an hour and a half. My overall impression is that it is amazing. It has way more low end power and the top end feels right about the same. It might have took off a little peak power or it could be that it pulls so hard in the low revs that the high revs don't seem as good.

Unfortunately... My cel light came on and I have had idle problems. I think the idle problems are caused by having the throttle body in the garage sitting for a very long time while freezing temperature and it needs to get "broken in." It did feel like it stuck a little bit before I installed it. The car drives fine with no other problems. I will get the cel checked tomorrow and see if its something that is bad. I hope its nothing bad cause I love the way it drives now. I will update it when I get the code pulled tomorrow.

try adjusting and testing everything, make sure its not sticking, then you can always adjust your idle..

I think I fixed the cel. I reset the ecu and while it was unplugged, I did the MAP whack. I just took a wrench and hit the MAP sensor a few times(not too hard). I let the car idle for about 10 minutes. I've driven about 20 miles now and it hasn't popped on again.

Pardon my ignorance here, but what is the purpose of changing the throttle body?

It adds little to no power for NA applications. The reason it feels so good off idle is the amount of air entering the engine is increased slightly at partial throttle. The larger throttle body gives more response for the same amount of pushing on the gas pedal. If you go with a much larger throttle body (70+mm) the partial throttle modulation becomes more difficult.

Correct. Optimistically, I can only hope for 1-2whp gains, but probably only have 0-1whp gains. It helps out with the engine bog at low revs so launching isn't as much of a pain or starting out of vtec isn't as bad. I'll update about my gas mileage cause Im sure that will be affected. Im still cel free. I think the MAP whack really works.

Thanks for the reply. Basically, as I understand it, it's like pushing the pedal down faster, because you're only going to get x amount of atmospheric pressure, depending on the throttle position. Might make for a little less clutch slipping taking off slowly from a stop light.

The cell will show that you are spiking the oxygen sensor. If you run a TB larger than 66 mm you have changed the throttle body enough to need a different ecu. Hondata would be a good choice.

Jonathan.
I got the cel checked. Cylinder 1 and 2 are misfiring so im guessing im running lean. Its only kicked on when I've been idling so I wonder if its just since it naturally runs lean when idling.

Any suggestions other than check the spark plugs?

Yeah, my light hasn't come one since I cleared it, but Im sure it'll come back on though. I love it, but I think I might take it off cause I don't want to screw things up. I was gonna use it for higher nitrous gains and throttle response, but Im having second thoughts. Anyone else with some advice to fix it???

Pull the plugs and see how they're burning. You may need to have the injectors tuned.
