New engine management system

I have heard to much about the different things you can do to the s2000. One of them upgrading the computer. The guy who sold it to me at the dealership said there is a chip you can get. I'm assuming it would be a programmer. Can anyone explain to me the role of a new management system and the gains i can get.

Theres a couple of options. 1. Standalone AEM EMS 2. Piggyback. 3. replacement ecu

The AEM EMS costs way more, but you can adjust timing and fuel and have alot of control over your car. This is what you want to squeeze the most performance out of your car.

The Piggybacks are still good if you're on a budget and aren't running high hp. The Apexi piggybacks(VAFC and AFC NEO) can only adjust your vtec engagement and it can add or subtract fuel at different rpms. Adding and subtracting fuel lets you get your air fuel ratio where you want it and even on a stock s2000, you can expect at least a 5 peak whp gain and up to 10whp gain in some cases. The Greddy E-Manage can do the same as the Apexi units and it can adjust your timing. Theres a thread on here somewhere about the "bad" things about the Greddy E-Manage. I think they've fixed it for the most part now though.

You can also get a "tuned" ecu from Mugen and Spoon. I think Hondata makes an ecu as well, but don't know much about it.

As far as chipping, I don't think there is an option for the s2000.
