I really need help! Please Read.
I blew a line off my oil relocation kit (i needed one for my turbo). I found out it was off when i was driving because my motor started making a knocking noise so i pulled over to see what it was.
But here is my issue. *notice: the turbo is not hooked up* I Immediately put new oil back in my S, Royal Purple 15w-40. I performed a Compression Leak Down Test wich had a 2% Leak, Compression Test and my Oil Pressure is 75 psi. I installed new Lost Motion Assemblies and a new Timing Chain, Tensioner, and both Guides. But the knocking continues, and my car will not rev past 6,500 rpm. Has Idle Problems and has dead spots when driving. Im not throwing a CEL. WHAT IS WRONG!!!?? |

"notice: the turbo is not hooked up"
Is it still on the car? If so where are you getting intake and exhaust from? Things to consider: If the cars is set up for the turbo, it could need to be retuned. If the turbo is still on the exhaust, it could have a seized bearing creating a lot of back pressure. If it's still connected to the intake it could cause an obstruction. Your mixture will be way off, causing the CEL. I'm sure some others will have ideas.

Im not throwing a Check Engine Light. The turbo is just sitting on the exhaust manifold which doesn't have anything to do with the knocking coming from the head. there is nothing on the throttle body.. the car isn't being driven its just sitting in the shop.

Sorry, I misunderstood. I thought the car was still running. The knocking could be several things like a rod, main bearing or wrist pin.
Keep us informed and good luck.

Sounds like it's not timed correctly.

+1. IIRC, if the TCT is not lined up correctly you can still get that "pinging". Should sound a like a baseball card in spokes on a bike. It will also change timing, which woould keep you below vtec, which is 6200 or 6300. Which is very close to the 6500 limit you are thinking it is cutting off at.

The car will still start and all. But we have had the head apart like 5 times and aligned everything with the timing up perfectly and it sounds the same.

You also could have scuffed/scored a cylinder wall due to oil starvation.

If we know he broke a oil line and ran it without oil why would timing come up? My suggestion is if the shop cant locate the knock find a new shop. Why does the head keep getting removed? This sounds like an extremely typical rod knock why not look there?

This was part of the reason why I mentioned it. And, the no CEL, and... the misfire. The real question is, why did he install new Timing Related Parts for an oil leak........? What do you think ISU? Either his description is inaccurate, or I'm a little slow. Could be either. Okay, I'm leanin' towards slow. Yeehaa! Jagg |

A little hard to diagnose by email. We can only point out some possibilities and hope that helps. Hell, Ive seen mechanics make lots of miss diagnosis when they had the car in their shop.

Good call jagg I didnt read that. I still stick by rod knock since it ran well broke a oil line and began to knock. It does seem odd that those other parts were replaced. Maybe a tech thats just throwing parts at a problem thats over his head? Maybe the sounds not really a knock and its more of a tick. Hard to say.
