heat soak
Can someone explain to me the signs of engine heat soak? I hear the term regularly but I don't fully undestand how to detect it.
Thanks |

I believe it is when the engine bogs down when you start from a stop or try to go full throttle from low RPMS. I have never had it happen to me, but then I have had a CAI or boost pretty much from the start of ownership.

I think it means when the engine produces an excess amount of heat.

If you have one of those snorkel type CAI's made from metal, they generally run near the radiator. Because of the large amount of heat in that area, the CAI absorbs a lot of that heat. Heat + gasoline = very lean mixture. That lean mixture is not as combustible as your normal mixture. The car bogs down on take-off. Mostly noticeable when you're at a stop light and start to take off when the light changes. You'll know it's heat bog because your head will hit the steering wheel before the car decides to richen the mixture a bit to compensate.
