upgrading my s2000
Im trying to decide what im going to do to my s2000. I know eventually i want to either supercharge or turbo. Since money isnt something i have alot of right now. I want to upgrade the eingine but i dont want to just throw a crap load of bolt ons(this might come out wrong, i rather do more technical stuff like new cams, headers and such. Can anyone give me any suggestions. I know many people in the past have posted a thread like this, but any help would be awsome.

First i wanna get ideas and go from there. If i have goals i tend to work harder towards them. So i just want some parts and stuff that would help me gain power. Overall not to expensive

If you're going supercharged or turbo, don't buy an intake cause you'll just take it off when you go forced induction.
Cams are junk for our cars. Brian Crower made some, but ended up losing whp and idling really bad. They were recalled. If you want a good mod that you can use now and when you go forced induction, I'd say get an aftermarket ecu,AEM EMS, and get it tuned. Or even the Greddy Ultimate piggyback. You can use these to tune your car at the moment and you'll need them when you go forced induction. With a stock car, I've seen up to 20 peak whp gains from just a standalone ecu. Piggybacks with timing control, Greddy Ultimate, you can get about 12-15 extra whp when stock. The VAFC piggyback can get you up to 10whp above stock, but you won't be able to tune a forced induction car too much with it. Id suggest the AEM EMS for now. Way better than a 5whp gaining exhaust, header, or intakes.

Please someone x plain to me why these folks don't just buy a Vette, a Porsche, a Viper, for that matter a classic Camero or GTO? Damn, drop a blown Chevy small block V8 into a '67 Beetle if you want a "sleeper". Why try to change a peach into an apple? Just buy the apple and shut up. OK, sorry I am tired and cranky tonight.

The guy selling on eBay has sold 4 items. I wouldn't even think about buying from him. I say just save your money and get your turbo or sc that much sooner. If you really just feel like dropping money, go spend it on a driving school, so you know how to handle all the extra power. Or just for fun.

I would go the supercharger route since you seem to be on a budget. I generally see turbo kits costing a little more. What year is your S? If you have an 06+, I would go with the Kraftwerks base supercharger kit. It has everything you need including an ECU reflash from Hondata. It should get you a solid 300whp. And if you ever want more power, you can get there high boost kit which is basically a new pulley, injectors, and some other stuff. Check out their website, the kit should cost you around $7,000 when all is said and done.

Save your money for boost. Don't mess around.

So what do ya get for 5 to 10 grand? Ya get bragging rights......OOOHHHH AHHHHH, I have a turbo. You get to pop the bonnet at S2 gatherings so we naturally aspired enthusiasts can go OOOHHHH AHHHHHHH a turbo. And you get a car with a shorter lifespan and less reliability. Obviously, it's an individual choice and everyone is free to do with their disposable income what ever they want. More power to them. (pun intended) If it were me, and I really wanted to go faster, and smoke 99% of every 4 wheeler on the road under 500K I'd buy a Hyabusa, a Honda CBR 1000 RR or a Yammie R1. You get all the speed you crave and more, and spend not much more $ than for your turbo kit. You would also get a spare set of wheels if your Stewie is in the shop!

Unless you do a complete engine swap of some sort, I doubt supercharging/turbocharging the S2K will make it faster than a 911 or Corvette; however, I would still turbo charge my S2000 just because I like the way the turbo sounds whenever you shift gears, and a turbo'd S2K will most likely burn a Subaru Impreza WRX STi and an Evo.

For you DJ, ANYTIME! and you are right about being overpriced. We can talk about stuffin a blown 327 into the back seat of a V Dub. Did I see that once in a Hot Rod Magazine a LONG time ago??

experience yields that a turbo will be less reliable than a super charger. the benefit of the turbo is that you don't have to have a lot of power to generate boost. with a super charger, because it is run off a pulley and not the exhaust, it takes more power to generate boost. i don't feel that that would be an issue on our cars though. SCs don't suffer from turbo lag either. i've never been in an S with a turbo or SC, so my opinion might not be what you are looking for.
it's your car though, and that's what is important. i think it is unfair for people to say that it is pointless to put FI on our cars. i drove a forester XT before i bought Stewie, that was a subaru stationwagon (small SUV) with a turbo. it made the car quicker than the NA version and that was the point.

The S comes factory with forged rods and pistons, but that still will limit that amount of boost you would run. Maybe you should post in the FI section for help and suggestions.

Correct. The motor is blueprinted from factory, and can handle decent boost with out modification. But the most I would push is around maybe 12psi for track days and 8 - 10 psi for DD. The main thing about the car that isn't made to take power is the rear diff. But you can get a diff kit to fix that.
