Ticking noise?!?!

So ive done my research and it seems to have been one of two things somthing to do with the clutch or the cats heat shield issue, But i opened my hood to do some more research and had my girl friend give it some gas and it really seems like the sound is originating from the belt... Anyone have any idea? Its only heard at lower RPS and when i start the car, forward and reverse. Sounds like real crap when i start up sucks having a nice car then people are like wtf.... thanks for any help guys

Sounds like a bad timing chain tensioner. A video/sound clip could confirm this.

No, I'm not talking about the serpentine belt tensioner. I'm talking about the timing chain tensioner. Often on this car they can go out at a higher mileage, and the chain will rattle or "tick". What year, and how many miles does your car have?

Well if that's where the noise is coming from, you could just take off the serpentine belt and see if the pulley spins freely and/or makes any noises.

The symptoms you have sound like a bad timing chain tensioner to me.

Does it sound like any of these? If so, I'm willing to bet it's the TCT, which is ~$120 to replace and relatively simple to change.

I just recently bought my car and the guy told me i had a full bumper to bumper warranty for another 5000 miles do you think that would be covered? i know its bumper to bumper but sometimes they leave out some of the good stuff that seems to actually go, Seems like you hit it on the head i appreciate it

That's good stuff Carguy.

#1 sounds like TCT.

#2 sounds like a pulley...you get a glimpse of the crank shaking for just a moment, but it's gone too fast.

#3 sounds like a TCT.

Again, Good Stuff.

Regards,
jagg

Honestly, I have no idea if the warranty will cover it. If they don't, you can try my old one for free. When I took my old TCT off to replace it, I found out that one of the oil passages was clogged, I un-clogged it (some RTV gasket maker got in it) so it may still be good. I still have it laying around, and if you just pay for shipping you can have it as I have no use for it since I have a relatively new one on my car. It may be worth a shot before dishing out $100+ for a new one. I'd show you how to replace it if need be too.

Also, here is the best price I've seen on the web for a new one. Jeff (hardtopguy owner) is local to me and takes care of all of us S2K guys.

I'm currently on vacation until the 8th, but if you have no luck with Honda I'll be more than happy to ship it to you.
