CEL code P1104

Secondary air intake malfunction, possible problems:

- bad or open fuse
- faulty relay
- air pump bad or hoses blocked

i have an '02 with 56k on it. i unhooked the negative battery cable to reset and CEL went off but the next time i drove it, about 50 or 60 miles later it popped back on.

does anyone have any input or suggestions?

I would suggest not undoing the battery cable and thinking that is going to solve your problem. You have a CEL for a reason. Just making the light go out doesn't fix the problem.

I would also suggest you check the three things you listed.

I know for a FACT that the last year of production of the S2000 is 2003!!!!!
After that, it will be the S2200 under an assumed name.

Is the hose from the air pump connected to the intake and if so is it obstructed?

The OEM hoses have to be connected correctly to a CAI or you get a CEL.

not likely to ever cause a driveability problem.

The secondary air injection system is there to help get the Cat Converter operating as quickly as possible when the engine is still cold.
It takes fresh air and mixes it with exhaust gases, creating higher temps in the exhaust gas in order to get it up to temp faster, and get the Cat Converter lit up a.s.a.p , reducing the pollution that cold cars produce.

errr....something like that.

Just what I was thinking. I'll look for a picture later today of what it's supposed to look like.
