I need to know why my s2000 smells like gas. When ever i park and get out or i am stopped at a light i can smell gas. Pure gas, does anyone know why or is it that i have something going on in my s2000.

Have you put on a test pipe?

I think you're a newer owner correct? I bet the previous owner put on a test pipe if you haven't. Its a very common mod to take off the cat in an s2k.

There is a tech service bulletin out in regard to the full filler pipe. The tech at Hendrick Honda, here in Charleston, told me the filler pipe neck is some what out of round. This allows the gas cap to loosen. I was also smelling gas on my 02 S2000. To replace the filler pipe incurs a hefty fee from Honda, couple hundred bucks, so I choose to tighten the cap between fill ups. I was also getting check engine light shortly after smelling the raw gas. Maybe this will help in sorting things out.

My s2000 Smells

That's just a funny title. Mine smells when I leave my stinky old Tevas in it on a hot day with the top and windows up. Not like gasoline though.

It would have been a much funnier thread had I been the first response of "Then stop farting in it"...but it doesn't have as much affect being the 10th post or whatever it is.

I know how you feel. When I pass gas in my car, it leaves the car smelling like $hit for about 2 weeks.. Try an air freshener. Works wonders....

Here is a question on farts. If a person has the walking farts, is the fart multiple farts, or is it one fart separated by steps in time?

I think there's a continuum there, sometimes it's one long fart separated by steps and sometimes it's a series of separates and sometimes it's sort of a medium and a couple of separates. BTW, if y'all would drive your Stewies with the top down like they're meant to be driven they wouldn't smell!

My initial response has pretty much destroyed the OP's thread. Did we at least answer his question or give him an idea of what could be wrong?

You guys need professional help.

But as long as we're talking about it, back during the previous energy crisis (of the 70's) there was actually a project, I believe it was in England, to try capturing the methane gas emitted from cows......both ends. True....no bull.

I don't want to be labeled a "fan", but it was an interesting read.

To the OP,

if you smell raw gas around your car, get it checked a.s.a.p.
It's nothing to fool around with, and can be very dangerous.
If you can't find the source, get it to somebody who can.

good luck,
jagg

The target marketing ad at the top is for "Odors in Homes". Shoulda been "Odors in S2000's".
BTW, welcome doc0943 from another doc,
