How loud is your transmission buzz / clutch rattle? (Videos included)

I swear mine gets louder and louder every month. When driving down the street in my neighborhood I have people look at my car because of the noise. Its horrible...

I know that sound. It is the springs in the clutch disc rattling on deceleration. You can put in a new clutch disc or do nothing. It won't cause any damage.

Tranny fluid swapped 2,000 miles ago. Clutch, pressure plate, flywheel, throughout bearing all 10,000 miles old, maybe 8,000, dont remember

ps- everything is competition clutch so I know it will be a little louder...but still. I know people with the same setup and it sounds nothing like this.

If I keep the car I may just swap the tranny for an AP2

On deceleration, it happens on all S2000. But yours is especially louder than a normal S2000.

The 00 S2000, that I am looking at purchasing sounds about that bad. The owner took it to the shop for inspection. Clutch and flywheel are shot according to the mechanic. It will be interested to see how it sounds when the work is completed. I should know by next Wednesday

I keep on getting a really annoying scraping type of sound whenever my foot is lightly resting on the accelerator, and i can hear it comming from my tranny. any of you all have the same thing. the sound is almost like what you would hear if a piece of plastic was hanging from you car and scraping on the road.

lol, just saw your sig. ya the skunk is a little loud.

well I know of a guy around me that has a sound that is like a ringing noise, sort of like metal on metal. and what it is, was the clutch rattling and vibrating the flywheel some how. when we pulled the tranny out nothing was damaged so we put everything back together and torqued everything to spec plus a 10% for insurance, and it quieted it down. should be nothing major... good luck

Really? On all S2000's? Actually, mine doesn't make any sounds that resemble his and my car is 100% stock, so I can here everything. Maybe its happeneing, but its so faint, I just don't hear it... Can you explain why it happens? Also, do all S2000's have a a very low sounding high pitch tone when they're driven? I've heard a lot do... just curious.

Sounds like a carrier bearing---somewhere.
Either the main shaft tranny bearing or diff bearing.

Would the sound logically come from the rear if its the LSD and front if its the trans?

Put it in 2nd gear and go up to 30-45mph then let off the throttle. Let it decelerate, don't use the brake. You'll hear it.

Finding unwanted sound will make an old man very old -- similar to solving electrical problem.
Your video was nice but try to give us a good educated idea where you think the
sound was coming. We can only guess.

On a 0202, how much will it cost to repair it? How much labor time is involved? I've heard on RWD cars that this is not a big deal. thanks

Do yourself a favour...spend the extra coin. Take it to Honda.
Never mind these mechanic shops. The dealer wont rip you off. Go to a popular Honda dealership and they will take care of it.
On another note...to be honest, to me it doesnt sound like the tranny. I picture for example perhaps you have a missing hanger on your exhaust and when you get to that certain point on your video where the car decelerates, its sounds like there metal to matel contact in a quick motion like a vibrator hense my thought would be something slightly but sure rattling up against something. Just a thought. Good luck hope when you find out that you will share with us what it was..

the sound is coming from the tranny. When it makes the noise you can feel it in the pedal assembly and in the shifter. When it stops you no longer feel it at all.

Honda told me to rebuild it or replace it...only $2,000-$4,000. It does the same with the T1R exhaust on the car, the stock on the car, Megan, J's and an invidia. Did it with the stock header, the DC header, and the T1R header as well and same with the stock cat, invidia cat, and megan cat. It has the be the tranny.

Do you hear the noise when you press the clutch pedal?

Two things in my mind: throw out bearing (clutch)
or I will stay firm on the input shaft carrier bearing (tranny).
If I were you, I will take a chance unbolting the tranny and check the throw out bearing. You are lucky if its only the throw out bearing....cheaper.

If it makes that noise when you partially push the clutch, it's the throwout. Ive seen them last forever like that. If you can live with the sound, I'd leave it alone until it screams.

Here's when I primarily hear the noise: When the cars in motion (letws say over 35), I'll engage the clutch, switch the gear, let up the clutch, then hit the gas, and I'll hear it when I hit the gas, its very very faint and low in its physical volume, but its tone is high pitched. HOWEVER, when I have the cruise control set on the highway, it makes no noise.

I dont think its when I hit the clutch, but more, its when i hit the gas, ill hear it and when i let off of the gas, the sound goes away. but like i told phil, when the cruise control in on, and i'm doing 65, you don't hear the sound at all.

Ohh okay, thanks.. With my schedule, it wont be examined for some time to come, but the sound primarly occurs when i hit the gas not when i engage the clutch, but on the highway, with the cruise set, you dont hear the noise at all.

No noise when the cruise is on???? thats interesting. That dealer cost is steep...would they guarantee it wont come back? I have been asking around some friends about this and if i hear anything logical then ill let you know.
