indvidia exhaust

I have a question for anyone who could help me. I have a Indvidia exhaust, which I love, but would like to dampen the drone a little bit. I heard that if I use the stock resonator, this will do it. Is that true? Is it a simple cut and splice? any help would be appreciated.

Have you tried the silencers?

I can think of three cheap fixes.

1) Turn up the stereo.

2) Get the wife ear plugs.

3) Leave the wife home!

Seriously though, I've heard that's a common problem. I think if you put the stock resonator on you'll be unhappy. My feeling is that funny little appendage, the unexplainable piece that juts out before the resonator is what stops the drone. That's only a guess though, I see no other purpose for that piece of the exhaust. I bought a New Invidia Q300 V4 Dual Exhaust 70mm and that is one of my concerns. I have not installed it yet, still in the box. I may just sell it and keep the car stock.

They say the drone is at a specific RPM range, I think it's 4K to 4500? Is that what you've experienced?

The little doinker is called a branch resonator. If you change the length of the exaust it moves the drone RPM up or down.
What the OP needs to do is measure the inside diameter of the tail pipe exits and get on ebay and order some silencers for it. They are about 10 bucks.
Red you NEED to install that exaust so I can hear it. Bring it over here. I'm real good at it.

So does that mean you have or have not tried the silencers?

A test pipe for many (including myself when I had an Invidia) has killed off/drastically reduced the drone with that exhaust.

Has anyone tried removing the section of the pipe just before the stock resonator and splice the pipe and branch resonator on the indvidia resonator. (Wow, I dont think I have ever seen the word "resonator" used so many times is a sentence.) The drone does occur between 4000 and 4500 rpms.

I heard putting some sound deadener to the pannel behind the roof (between the roof and the trunk) cuts out a lot of resonance. worth a try I guess?

Also I got hold of some tech drawings for the stock exhaust and overlayed a Skunk2 system (supposed to be the same). Found out if you cut the stock system after the first silencer and cut the Invidia/skunk2 system @ the same place the shound splice together very nicely. Never got round 2 trying it though.

i have an Invidia exhaust, i also run a test pipe with it as well, which helped a little with the droning, once i put the silencers on it brought the droning down quite a bit...

That was my point and I have asked the OP TWICE about it, but he refuses to answer the question so I give up trying to help him.

It's nicer to run without the silencers for looks as they look like pea shooters, nasty.

You might be able to find some silencers if you put a WTB on either S2KI, S2KCA, or here. eBay may have some as well. I know they help some with the drone. Good luck.

Hey H, You still running stock exhaust? I've been thinking of installing it. I was keeping the S stock as I was going to trade it in but got lousey offers. Also tried outright sale but no bites. Tried selling the exhaust, no bites either.

It would probably sound good on your car. Make me a good offer.

I heard that also. So it does help? Percentage of reduction? Does the test pipe make it louder as well? Anyone go through emmissions with a test pipe? I know the CEL fix will keep the system electronically right but the visual inspection may be the problem unless they buy the "legal high flow cat" explanation. Changing back and forth for inspection is not my idea of fun...

Just put the thing on Red. It takes about a half hour.

Will,

I have an Invidia, and replaced the Inv front resonator with the factory one. It quiets it a bit, and reduces drone... How much, I truly can't remember.. but it allowed me to remove the silencers from the exhaust tips.. and it sounds fine. Still was a bit loud for conversations when the roof was up.

I just used the front pipe from the factory setup to behind the factory resonator, and cut it off there. It was a simple splice to the Invidia pipe. Def. def worth the minimal effort/cost to do so. I've since replaced the factory resonator with a high flow Magnaflow (11376) muffler. It was a tighter fit, but the results have been awesome. I truly like the sound of this exhaust now. It's a low tone, sounds great as the revs climb!

I mounted two of these for friends. The second time, my wife asked me to not do that anymore. The Invidia is well made but damn loud.

test pipe is the cheapest fix and if your town does visuals (dallas doesnt) its all of a 5 minute job to put the stock cat back on

just do it
