Crack in Window :(

Well, I was trying to bring the top down this morning and right when it settled behind the seats I hear a loud crack. I bring the top back up and find a giant crack in the rear window. It's a 2001 one so it's plastic. Anyone know how to fix it? Even better does anyone know if I can replace with a glass one?

yes, you can replace the top with a glass window top. this is a highly recommended modification to '00-'01 MYs.

your window cracked b/c it was probably cold. they are less flexible when cold.

You do have another option if money is tight at the moment. You can also just replace the plastic rear window. If your top is undamaged I would do this since its cheaper. Also, you could go to a Lowes and get a section of water heater insulation hose a little longer than the rear plastic window wrap it in some soft fabric from a fabric market and create your own plastic window protector. You can buy these already made from MUZ but they want $80.00.

Check with Hardtopguy about a replacement rear plastic window. Good luck.

This would be good news to you if you were planning on getting a hard top. Same thing happened to my soft top cracked from the cold weather. Just used that as motivation to get a hardtop. Now planning on yankin the whole soft top and motors out for weight deduction. Any1 know how much weight il be shaving off by doing this???

on s2ki i read something about 200lbs for complete soft top assy with motor. the top itself weighs something like 70lbs. I'd love to do the same but $1600 bones is a lot of money for a broke guy

Well that has to be BS because if the S2000 CR removes the entire soft top motors and spare tire the weight savings is 91 lbs. No offense meant but someones math just don't add up. S2000 CR Rick's numbers are pretty damn close.

So I'd be replacing the whole top if I wanted a glass window? or would it just be a new window?

Well that I don't know about but you could check with Hardtopguy and see if going to the much smaller glass rear window will work on the soft-top for the larger plastic window. I am one who prefers the larger plastic window on the 2000 and 2001 S2000s. My friend Larry from s2kca has the 4th S2000 brought to the states in Sept 1999 his car still has the original plastic rear window and it is flawless and crystal clear, he uses the MUZ window protector and a UV inhibiting plastic polish that keeps the plastic window soft and supple (sounds like a commercial huh) at any rate, going to the small glass window only increases the blind spot area on the S2000 and that is partly why I put hardtops on both of my cars. Give Hardtopguy a call he will be able to help you sort this out. Good luck!

Thus one of the reasons I waited to get an '02. No worries about the back window.

Good luck on getting it fixed.

I know for a FACT that the last year of production of the S2000 is 2003!!!!!
After that, it will be the S2200 under an assumed name.

Man, that sucks. So, are you going to upgrade to a glass rear window top?

I'm thinkin about it, but the prices I'm getting are pretty high. The DIY kit is relatively inexpensive, but I really don't want to screw it up. The procedure seems pretty complex.

I am in this same situation and im going to go for the glass window upgrade but the install will be a pain in the S haha and getting it right could take a while. so I will probably have it done some where although it will cost a lot i dont want to mess it up. The new tops w glass are on ebay for around 500. but who knows how much they will charge for 12 hours of labor. (install)
