Just solved the same problem on my 2000 SP1. Just cut 4 small pieces (about .375" diameter) of .062" thick rubber tape and place in each depression (front and rear) of the strike/latch assembly on the windshield frame and carefully latch the top. After setting for a while. the tape will conform and adhere. Mine was rattling like crazy on these cold mornings and is quiet as can be now. Good Luck

Honda has a TSB on this problem. If you have a early AP-1, there is also a latch replacement but I don't' think it's covered by TSB.

I had the same problem on my 05. The dealer lubed the latches at first. This resolved the issue for about a day, then the problem returned. The dealer finally replaced both latches, and now they are quiet.

Hmm, what's the consensus on replacement? My 03 had it big time on the right latch, and now the 07 has it a little bit as well, kind of surprising. Usually, unlatch and latch fixes it, but I wonder if it's an alignment issue?
Come to think of it, I guess we're just supposed to leave the top down!

Quick fix. Use some aquarium hose cut about a 1-1/2 inch piece to cover the striker hook but leave the tip of open. Works like a charm. Did this four years ago, still works great.

PM me your VIN and I can check with Honda Interactive to see if there is a Bulletin that applies that can help you. I'm off until Monday 5/12/08 but I'd be glad to look into it for you if you'd like.

Mine were replaced under warranty but the replacements started rattling after a short time so I stuck in some self sticking foam which solved the problem.

get some rubber or aquarium tubing cut out a 1-inch length, push it on to the latch hooks make sure it clears the hook and rattle is gone.

If they rattle now buying a hard top isn't going to make them stop rattling (and now the latches will be right behind your head where they can really drive you crazy). There is a service bulletin about this, check your dealer and they'll fix it for you or follow the above advice and get some aquarium air hose and cut two short pieces and slide them over the hooks...

lol I was joking and the latches that would rattle are in the same location, the ones behind the seats dont' rattle, different style.

You are correct about the bulletin:

Honda Service Bulletin 03-023

SYMPTOM
The convertible top creaks, pops, or rattles while
driving over rough roads. This noise is only noticeable
with the top raised and the driver’s and passenger’s
windows closed.

PROBABLE CAUSE
This noise can be the result of any of these causes:
• Gaps between the mounting bracket and the plastic
trim of the convertible top lock handles
• Various weatherstrip pieces and plastic parts are
rubbing on the convertible top frame
• Dry pivot points on the convertible top frame

CORRECTIVE ACTION
Add EPT sealer to the lock handles, and lubricate the
indicated areas.

Out of warranty: Any repair performed after warranty
expiration may be eligible for goodwill consideration by
the District Parts and Service Manager or your Zone
Office. You must request consideration, and get a
decision, before starting work.

A good post. Mine don't rattle but this will help keep them that way. When I put the top up, I hold the forward lever while latching them.

Thanks Boost, I'm gonna try that. Or should I have Honda do it for me? Looks kinda like a tech bulletin that they should have...

Yeah Phil. I do the same thing when I'm battenin' down the hatches.
A while back I'd run into an occasional sharp "CLACK" (yes Jagg n' Don. Right now I'm on the constumer side'a the counter makin' stupid noises. Whut goes aroun', comez aroun', y'know?) that happened after I'd locked down the top and put the side glass full up.
'Z'near'z I could figger, the pins weren't fully seatin' when I was jus' throwin' the leverz forward n' the side glass wuz pushin' it up to where it wuz 'post'a'bee: CLACK!
'Started holdin' the lever while securin' the top'n no more "CLACK".
Beatz jus' turnin' the radio up, y'know?
