What is the Velcro for on each side of the Rear Window?

Hello All,

I was just wondering if anyone knew what the Velcro strap on each side of the convertible top rear window was used for. I was driving tonight and heard some flapping in the wind, only to find one velcro flap was coming off. I examined both sides and I cannot figure out what the purpose is for these velcro straps? When I examined the strap that was falling off, it ended up detaching totally. They are not really fixed properly..

You guys think its okay to just leave it off or should I worry about it?

Thanks for the help Honda Fans...

Craig

I am not sure what you are describing. Is the velcro on the inside of the top or the outside? Mine is a '02 so I will check tomorrow, but mine may be different.

I know for a FACT that the last year of production of the S2000 is 2003!!!!!
After that, it will be the S2200 under an assumed name.

Craig, I've got an '04, so my experience with the plastic window is limited, but, 1) what year's your Stewie n' 2) is the top stock r' aftermarket n' 3) do the straps look factory r' home-grown?
My first thought for somethin' in that location would be somethin' to possibly hold the plastic window protector in place when the top's folded up.
Be well.

Okay, jus' went outside n' checked the '04 in the driveway n' discovered a Velcro "fuzzy" strip (no "hook" strip attached) under the section of top that overlaps the rear window. One on each side.
Craig, if you wouldn't'a asked this question it's likely that I'd never've known I had those two strips under there.
I've had my Stewie for jus' shy of 2 years n' if the missin' "hook" strips've made any difference I'm not aware of it. But then, I wasn't aware of the existence of them in the first place.
I've godda presume that it's a sound buffer for that particular flap of top possibly doin' a tap dance on the glass when the wind is jus' right. If that's the case, then I imagine that the "hook" portion of the strip is to be removed. Maybe.
Bottom line is I dunno, but it doesn't appear to've hurt anything in almost 2 years of my experience with it.
If nothin' else, you've got company.
Be well.

Oh, n' thanks Go.

Hey Java,

Thats the one!!!!! Those fuzzy velcro strips are exactly what I am talking about. Could it be that Honda has an accessory that may cover the glass using these strips? Hmmmmmmmm

Or it could be what you said about them being the buffer or reinforcement for the wind to prevent flapping. Whatever it is, I think its going to be an unknown answer....Who knows

Thanks

I am guessing the fuzzy side of the velcro is used as a buffer as suggested as well as a way to keep the glass from rubbing on the top. After time the rubbing may have a negative effect on the glass (scratches and such). If it were me, I would replace the strip, but that's just me.

Curiouser n' curiouser.
Hell, i'm assumin' we're talkin' factory top, plastic rear window?

And Craig, the part that detached from the top on yours, was that the fuzzy portion attached to the underside of the window flap or a hook strip that was attached to that?
Be well.

We're talking 2004 with the factory roof with glass top.

The strip that detached was the fuzzy portion....Heck I cannot even find a prickly portion of the velcro that you would think would be on the other side of the flap to make a perfect velcro marriage. That doesnt even exist...Strange!!!!

By the way...Go Indy
