How can I cover the license plate holes in the front bumper?

My S2000 is a 2000 model. I want to cover up the two sets of "nostrals" in the front bumper that are the license plate mounting holes. I've purchased the little oblong covers AND the metal backing plates from Honda. My husband and I tried to install them, it is a simple pressure fit. BUT, there is no way to get your hand behind the bumper. There seems to be a series of covers and insulation directly behind the bumper that will not give way enough to feed the metal backer plate behind. I hate to start taking things apart and the thought of spending lots of dollars at a body shop is not appealing. Anyone have suggestions or experience with this little problem? P.S. I have seriously thought about getting out the trusty old glue gun!!! Thanks - The Butterpatlady

You have to take teh front bumper off. It's not that hard and a good learning experience.
The first five pages tell you how:

I know for a FACT that the last year of production of the S2000 is 2003!!!!!
After that, it will be the S2200 under an assumed name.

Thanks for the response. We took off the bumper and installed the little plugs this morning. Also found the metal backer plates that were origionally behind the holes (this car came from a state that requires front tags) so now I have a second set of the backer plates! They had fallen down behind the bumper. Maybe the Honda dealer will let me return the extras for a refund.
