I know for a FACT that the last year of production of the S2000 is 2003!!!!!
After that, it will be the S2200 under an assumed name.

Aaay Snafu, owyadoon?
Mcguiers r' Mothers plastic polish will take the surface roughness down to a smooth finish, but, I'm guessin' an '01 window would more be a candidate for replacement.
McGuiers r' Mother's'll run ya what? Maybe 15 bucks American? I don't even wanna think what a rear window replacement's gonna go for (n' then if you do opt for the window replacement you've godda take into consideration that the top's as old as the window. Deep-sixin' n' replacin' the whole kit n' caboodle might be the way to go, but you godda get up close n' personal with it n' make your decision). So givin' the plastic polish a shot might buy you some time.
Keep us posted how you chose to go n' how you make out. Face it, not too far down the line there's gonna be others askin' the same questions.
Be well n' good luck.

On ebay Ive seen new tops (they even have '00 & '01 tops with glass rear windows) for about $600. Sounds like a good deal if you're going to replace the top. Anybody tried these and if so, how was the quality?

Be well.

Ok, with that being said, just where can I find a new top with a glass rear window that will fit an 01' (for any amount of money)? Mine needs replaced, and I've heard that there is some kind of conversion kit you can buy that comes with the top. I don't want to buy another one with a plastic window, only to have it crack again in a few years.

Ok, this is news to me. I have the 2001. AP1 and my rear window is so matte, I can't reverse park unless I stick my head out the door. Can I replace just the window with a glass one? I noticed the plastic window actually folds when the roof is lowered, so if I replace it with a glass one, will it still fold neatly?

I can't do it at the moment, but an old post by Halo that was dealin' with tops/windows/replacement n' the glass replacement for the plastic is what you guys're lookin' for.
Halo's on some kind'a sabbatical but his name's in the rank-n'-file. Pull it up, go to the view-all-posts-by-Halo n' start punchin' in the words that you're lookin' for.
It's in there.
Be well.

OK, after reading Halo's posts, I know what I need to do. However, does anyone know how much those new tops with the glass cost? When I asked Honda about it last year, they told me that it would run about $1200 for the one with the plastic! That seems pretty high..........

As I said up a few posts. Check ebay. Punch in "honda s2000 convertible top" and voila, there's a bunch. Some are around $600 with a glass rear window. Haven't tried one (mine's good). They are aftermarket and the price is right. I just don't know how they stack up against the oem top.

Just an update:

I went on ebay, and ordered a new top (with glass) for my 01'. It cost me $530 with the shipping included. Due to lack of time, I had it installed by a trim shop, and it looks great! Also, it folds back perfectly. I highly recommend the shop I ordered it from, but I'll have to get back with ya'll with their info.

How much was the labor cost for the install?

You can use 303 product on it. Some guy on S2ki.com has done it.

Using 303 on the window will help keep it from yellowing due to UV rays. Good for all plastic and rubber. Google 303, lots of good info on the site.

A good site for a replacement top...

invest in a new top with glass...it's worth it in the end and looks so much better. topsonline.com was where i bought mine..it was $550 or so.. the "conversion" is not really a difficult process...you have to drill some small holes in the rods in a few specific areas...nothing too difficult...just time consuming.

The glass rear window is a great investment. That's what I'd do. Mine had one when I bought it, and I'm glad I've never had to deal with the issues of a plastic back window.

Novus works very well. If it's really scratched the start with #3 and polish with #2. Depending how bad it is, a replacement might be in order.
