Need some help for the rear window
Hi everyone. I just got a 2nd hand S2000 and love it so much. The only problem is that plastic rear window, which is a bit "milky". What is the best thing to do to return it to clear?

I think you mean a plastic polish (not wax).
I suggest using either Meguire's or Plexus brands. M@ |

I've heard great things about Plexus. Haven't used personally. Couldn't find it at the local store. I did use some Blue Coral and it worked just fine IMO.
Once you clean it you can tint the rear window BTW. I learned about doing that at last years Florida Super Meet...coming first week in April BTW. Check out s2ki.com, Regional communities, then Florida forum for more details. Simply bought some static tint from Home Depot. My wife cut it and put it on the outside of the window. I only use 100% cotton towels to wash it and it looks great. Probably been on there about 8-10 months now.

I tried Meguire's & Plexus, but they seem to require frequent applications to look good.
For the last year and a half I been using a plastic polish/scratch remover. Don't know the brand but it's been working great and I re-treat every few months instead of weeks. I also keep the car garaged or shaded as much as I can. Dave |

Window Plight
I finally got me dealer to warranty my 2001 rear window. The question now is should I get some type of pad or mat to put in the boot to protect it from the abrasion that ruined the first one?
Thanks, JM |

When you fold your roof down, the rear plastic window folds in and rubs on the plastic well behind the seats. This causes the middle area of the window to scratch up and look milky.
Once you have cleaned this up with plastic polish I highly recommend buying a MUZ ROOF WELL MAT. This sits in the roof well area and is made so that it does not scratch the plastic rear window. http://www.prestigeautoaccessories.com. M@ |

I second the use of novus (the no.2 along with the novus cleaner/polish spray)

I talked to a guy who owns a convertible shop here in FL. He says that the waxes and polishes work, but only if the discoloration is at the surface level. If the rear window is badly discolored, get up close to it and see if you can tell if it is in between the layers. Apparently the rear window is just a bunch of thin plastic layers that are glued together. The "Milky" color is the adhesive reacting to sunlight / folding of the top. The only way to truely remedy this is to find a totaled 2002-2005 and hock the frame and rag top off of it. This will give you a glass rear window.

Not all discoloration is due to scratching. Yes the plastic over the years can tend to go yellow due to UV light exposure.
303 Protectant is useful against UV - think of it as sunscreen for your plastic. It is available most commonly at boating stores. Once you have your window looking good, apply a bit of 303 every few weeks to help keep it that way. |
