Roof cover fitting problems

Hoping someone can offer some help.

I bought a 2001 this past January and kept the roof closed through the winter while stored.The roof seems to retract fine,but am unable to snap the cover into place.I can't tell if the roof has retracted far enough but there is not enought space to get at the snaps with your hand and am unable to get the cover low enough to snap in. Should the cover be this difficult to attach?
I tried greasing the elbows of the roof but has not helped.

Has anyone experienced this and are u aware of a fix?

Appreciate any feedback!

I use mine all the time and when I am having problems reaching the inside snaps, I push the top away from the roll hoop area toward the trunk and that gives me enough room to slide the cover down and get my hand in there to snap it down.

I hope that helps a little.
