Front License Plate

So I got my car in MD where you aren't required to have a front license plate but I live in VA where you do. I didn't want to drill that perfect unblemished front bumper so I bout a bolt on bracket off e-bay that's Japanese style where it's skewed to the right. Now my problem is I don't know where to put it! Everything around the air dam is plastic so I'm worried that it'll be too flimsy. I've thought about drilling underneath the air dam so it'll be more secure but the holes will still be out of sight. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Drill a bunch of holes in the plate about 3/4 to 1 inch big between all the numbers and mount to side of air opening with zip ties or, cut everything away except the numbers and mount or, leave it off as I have here in California where we are required to have a front plate. Been stopped once in 7 years.

That sounds like too much work. Maybe I'll just grab a sharpie and draw it on? Sounds just as good right?

I live in VA and I don't have a front plate...it lives under the passenger seat...If I get stopped, I'll ty-wrap it to the grill or mount it below the front air intake..

I put black heavy-duty velcro on the back of the plate and on the horizontal fins in the grille. I also put those black plastic license plate screws in the plate (so it looks like it's screwed in) and cut the excess off of the back. I can remove the plate when I'm cruising and put it on when I want. If I do get pulled over for no plate, I don't put it on in front of the cop (it's supposed to be securely mounted), I'll put it on and go down to the station and get them to write off the fix-it ticket.
Haven't had any issues with engine running hot or the fan coming on anymore than it used to.

I have been stopped 1 time in CA and never in VA and have never used a front plate. It would block the intake of my Mugen airbox. So it is under the front seat as well.

don't put a plate on it. it's just a fix-it ticket if you even get one. if you do, just take a picture with the plate on, go to the court house, pay your $10 then take it back off when you get home.

If you must have it on, I would attach it to the front grill area.

Since you say you have a front bumper with no holes, I am guessing you have an after market front end. That makes it hard for us to help you if we do not know which front end you have.

Everybody seems to be saying just leave it off so I think that's the way I'm going. Seems like too much hassle for something so small and it does look really nice and clean without any tag

You are required to have a front tag in MD, it's a $60 ticket. It sucks, but its the law!

Yeah but if you show up in court they change it as long as you fix it right?? Its like $7.50 or something. It happened to me when I had "illegal" lights, but I do live in Florida though.

But still if it is the law, you should do it. Not worth the hassle in my opinion to get pulled over for it, taking off work, going downtown, waiting in line.. etc. Plus chances are you will get pulled for something else first, (i.e. Speeding, Red Light, Seat Belt, Etc) and then get hit with another ticket. I very rarely get pulled over and get by with only one.

One of the other guys mentioned a "fix-it ticket" where it sounds like I'd just have to show up at the station showing I got it put on? Do you know anything about that?

No it's not a fix it ticket. It is a ticket for not having a front licencse plate on your car. If you get one you pay $60 period. yes I have got one, on my old car.

Would leaving it on the dash in the front windshield be fine? Or does it just depend on my luck that day and what kind of mood the cop is in?

From what I know, it is a fix-it ticket in Cali. Go down to the station, show them that you have installed the plate, and they write off the ticket. At least that was what I did last time (over 10 years ago). It can't be in the windshield because it is supposed to be securely attached to the car.

I think I'm just gonna risk leaving it on the windshield considering how rarely people seem to get in trouble for it. Terpcop, don't hunt me down now, and if you do see a silver stewie cruising around with no front tag, have mercy!

Yeah, if you just smoked a big fatty, might be better to avoid being pulled over for no front plate.

Ha, well I certainly don't care, but I do think it ruins the front of the car. I leave mine on because it would be unfair for me to stop someone if I didn't have one myself. However, it is common to get stopped for it. I use it as a stop to lead to other things (DUI, drugs, etc). I rarely actually give out the ticket unless the person is being a, well not nice person. But leaving it in your windshield is stupid and ugly, have it on the front of your car or not at all in my opinion .

Ohh, and I don't ever stop S2000's!

Get a cool, clever "vanity plate" and display it proudly!

Or put the regular plate on the dash right next to your radar detector. VA gendarme love that!
