OEM Car Cover

Hey guys

Do any of you have the OEM s2000 car cover? Looking into buying one. I mainly plan to use it when my car is parked in my garage with my top down cuz of the dust and spiders, but I also would like to use it while I'm at work parked outside. I have heard that the OEM car cover is only designed to be used indoors, so just curious if anyone have used it outside.

Or does anyone have any other suggestions? I am trying to avoid using the motor that puts the top up and down multiple times a day

Thanks

I use it outside all winter. That should be interesting using it with the top down as it's really designed to cover the car with the top up. I'm going to have to try that just to see what it looks like...

I have a cover that just covers the interior and windshield. Easy on and off takes very little room in the trunk.

I actually had the OEM car cover before I had the car. I have used it for over 7 years, but only once outdoors. A thick fog came in and turned what little dust that was on the car into mud with the pattern of the OEM cover pressed into it. I wouldn't suggest using it outdoors with any kind of wet weather coming, but I guess others have done it.

I know for a FACT that the last year of production of the S2000 is 2003!!!!!
After that, it will be the S2200 under an assumed name.

Hey Phil, what kind do you have? And where did you get it from? I have seen some convertible covers online going for $100-150 but I figure if I'm going to spend that much might as well spend a little more and get the OEM full car cover.

I have to look it up. Mind's drawing a blank right now. Before I got this and my car was outside, I bought a nice cover from Costco. 4 layers, water resistant, didn't leave the pattern after a rain. I think it cost about $37. Doesn't have the mirror pockets but their's plenty of matierial so no problem.

Problem solved. I've ordered two covers from this place over the years.http://calcarcover.com/ The S covers come with side mirror and antenna pockets. All types to choose from. Fits just as tight with the top up or down. Loose covers will always blow off on a windy day.

This says Corvette, but it looks like the one I bought. That doesn't look like a vette to me. Looks more like an S. I also recommend the California Duster to take the loose dust off.

For standard covers I think they are over priced. Costco is a much better buy. I paid about $80 for the interior cover.

I have them both (the cockpit cover was a gift from the GF) and I prefer the top cover. It also works as a cockpit cover and it has the padded sides that sort of protect the doors. Plus it's a nice sunshield for the windshield and it keeps the bird crap off of the top if you use it when park. I'd sell you my cockpit cover, but since it was a gift from the GF, I need to let it sit for another month or so so she'll forget about it. Also, the roof cover actually folds up to about the same size as the cockpit cover.

I also have the OE car cover and it works outside but it is made of cotton so it's not really rain/waterproof. I live in an apartment with covered parking so it's okay, but I wouldn't really recommend it for long term use outside. It also tends to shrink when it gets wet. If you want a whole cover for use outside I'd look for one of the ones made of NOAH or other water resistant fabric.

I have the OEM cover that the previous owner already had. I use it inside the garage to keep off dust and spider webs.

The first time I used it, it was on for a couple weeks and when I took it off, the car was covered with dust. Much worse than if it would have sat alone in the garage.

I took the cover to a laundromat and washed it in one of those giant washing machines, then let it air dry. Now it's perfect while covering my black baby inside. Fits like a glove.

Other than garage storage I don't see why you wouldn't cover the entire car. You park outside in a parking lot on a bright sunny day,put on your cockpit cover and for the rest of the day the cockpit stays protected however it's alright for the sun beat down on your paint?

I use it primarily in the garage to keep critters and dust out of the interior. A California Duster takes dust off the paint in a minute. The sun doesn't hurt the paint if you keep it waxed. At least on my color. Dark colors might be different. When parked outside, it is a hassle to use a full cover, while the cockpit cover takes a couple of minutes and doesn't use much room in the trunk.

I just got the cockpit cover delivered and I must say this thing is awesome! Goes on quickstyle (about 1 min). Very handy for those of you who always have the top down.

Thanks Phil!

I got a cover for my s2000 from Empire Covers. They give ratings for all their covers for how well it protects the car in four different categories, including sun. And there are always coupon codes floating around for that site.

Not sure if you want to go to the trouble of covering the whole car every time you park though. I think the sunshade would be a lot easier.

Ray, just as a side note - I wouldn't have any reluctance to using the top motors several times a day, if necessary. I've never heard of them going bad or breaking, even on early AP1s. Has anyone else??

It seems these motors are pretty durable and built to last.

Yeah I was just being paranoid because I wanted to prolong the life of the motor but come to find out it's the fabric that wears out over time, not the motor. Plus my S is no longer my DD so I don't have to worry about overusage anymore.

I ended up buying the OEM cover from Honda and also bought the cockpit cover suggested by Phil. Both work awesome! OEM cover is perfect when I go out of town and the cockpit cover works as a cover AND a sunshade and takes less than a minute to put on
