Water/Alcohol Injection

For all you guys out there using Forced Induction, thought I would let you know the results I have achieved with water/alcohol injection.

I saw the Coolingmist system advertised on this site, and eventually purchased the trunk mount S-HSV system.

My reason for purchase is that I am running an HKS3240 turbo at 10PSI with STOCK internals, and the Japanese compression ratio of 11.7:1. Although I havn't had detonation problems, I wanted to be sure. Water/alcohol should boost the octane racing and clean the engine too, and is easier to run than switching to high octane and hard to find race gas.

The install took about 4 hours, and was fairly straight forward with no major issues.

I have attached some photo's showing the tank mounted in the trunk. The injection nozzle is welded into the inlet pipe just ahead of the BOV and on the underneath.

I had the car dyno tuned, and wasn't looking for a power increase, however power increased from 253kw at the wheels to 270kw running a 50/50 water/alcohol mix, that's 425hp at the engine. I assume from the cooling effect of the alcohol.

So great kit, I have been very impressed and I think well worth considering.
It should stretch the life of the engine and the power increase is a bonus.

Sweet ride, one of the nicest i've seen. I'm a huge fan of the right hand drive that always gets me one off anyways. But yea great install looks mean.

Yes stock internals and running 10 psi. Have been running 10 psi about two years now with nothing gone bang. But it dosn't generally get pushed hard.

I drag race it (competition) at most twice a year, and on the odd occassion I get to the track I wind the boost down to 5 psi, more with the intention to protect the drive train.

The intention of the water/alcohol injection is to give it a bit more life on original internals, but the intention is to do the block and pistons together with drivetrain next year.

Hi, thanks for the comments. Kit cost around US$700, installation and tuning was about another $600 on top.

I am not sure the benefit would be worth the expense for N/A application. Try the web site http://www.coolingmist.com there is a heap of info.
