Question Help

Hi guys/gals, as you can see, I'm new here; looking for some advise. I don't yet own an S but will in the very near future; an '04, and I need some advice on how to set it up. I want around 300-400 whp, and i don't want to have any internal/head-work done. So my question is how should I do that? I'm thinking the Vortech S/C kit with headers/exhaust will get me close but I'm hoping you guys can get more in depth for me. Thanks.

Awesome thanks for the feedback. Do I need to do anything to the tranny? Clutch, diff? I know the diff is weak on these cars but should i be worried about it with that kind of power?

coolness its all in how smooth you drive really. How much punishment are you going to put on the system? Then decide what to beef up. Diff, clutch (never heard of a tranny going out yet)

Well SM, I am an aggressive driver (not a maniac). I get into my cars pretty good sometimes. No dragging or anything just dumping the clutch occasionally (again nothing crazy, around 4k). I have an '04 Sentra SE-R Spec-V with lots and lots of bolt-ons, it eats GT's and 350's all day and i've never had a problem with the clutch in that, or any of my cars really.

Well keep in mind the S2000 is a whole nuther game. Its a track car not a stand still and thrash car. But hey if your not super hard on it I wouldnt worry about it to much. Just keep enough backup cash just incase something happens. Which it will to me as much you in some cases. I mean whats the worse that could happen. Clutch go bad? Diff go bad? Quick fix back on the road.

I understand the S2000 is a completely different breed from anything I've driven. I won't be "thrashing" it at all. I obviously didn't pick this car for drag racing; I know that's not what it's for; I picked this car because it's like an under-powered production race car. It's just very well rounded and I would like a bit more "umph".

I'd love to have a go at that SE-R Spec-V it sounds impressive.

you might want to also get a 3mm headgasket also. It lowers the compression ratio to around 9:1. If you're boosting, you don't want too high of a compression

It is. The best part about it is it's a four door so nobody expects it. But that thing has tons of torque and just leaves people with jaws hanging.

Ya, I thought about that but with the Vortech I shouldn't have too much boost should I? I don't plan on modifying the original set-up.

Without saying anything is better than the other, I have during my time owning my S (since June 07) been looking around what kits there are around. My own impressions (and the only alternatives I myslef would consider buying) are that to get a faster car it is either turbo or rotrex "planetary gear style" supercharger. I myslef settled with turbo, fast spooling for good power over the rpm range.

Call me lazy, but I just don't feel like dealing with a turbo. I just want something relatively easy to "throw" on the S to get some added hp. I might check out the Rotrex further.

Around 300-310 at the wheels.

You do not NEED to change the dif or clutch, but it wouldn't be a bad idea to replace the clutch and get the CT reinforcment for the diff (if you can find it).

I know for a FACT that the last year of production of the S2000 is 2003!!!!!
After that, it will be the S2200 under an assumed name.

Really? You think that's all I'll get? I might need to do a little more work than I thought. And just how hard to find is this CT diff reinforcement? One more thing; what clutch do you suggest? Thanks
