Second glove box?

Today i was messing around in my S2K and discovered a second glove box, it thought it was pretty funny i dont think it has ever been opened because it has spider webs in it.Im sure i'm not the only one that hasnt discovered it considering ive had my car about a year and a half. Its directly ubove the one in the center. You have to open the one between the seats then unlatch the second one by pressing up on the lip at the top.The deck that the small wind screen sits on its the lid to it.Sorry no pics posted, i was to excited when i found it to take any.Well there ya go hope it help or gives a laugh or 2.

I just came across this one and had to laugh a smidge. I guy would be in a world of hurt if he couldn't find the release for the gas fill release (which I will admit to) and then couldn't find the owners manual in the second glove box location. I like this lay out however. Makes the interior very clean looking. Many of the later model new cars are doing similar. Again Honda leads the way. JEH

As previously posted, it is commonly referred to as the secret compartment.
Many owners have told stories of not receiving an owner manual, then finding one inside this compartment some time later.

I bought my car used from a dealership. It took me a year to find the secret compartment. I found a bunch of CDs and personal info from the previous owner.

Bought mine new, so the salesman handed me the owners manual. Even so, it took me a few days to find the "secret compartment". Funny, I found it LOOKING for a place the store the manual. Hmph. Oh, and as for the fuel door release. . . ya, I stood at the pump looking stupid for about a minute hunting around on the floor etc, before I found it. Hmph, and Heh!

I figured the compartment, but I had the misfortune of pullin' up to the pumps for the first time with almost all of the biggest 'nad busters front n' center n' me not havin' a clue about how'ta open the gas-cap door . . . well, let's jus' say I get to get reminded of it . . alot.
Be well.

It if was not for this post I may never have found out about it. I left work and went to go find it and then signed up for the forums just so I could let you all know what an idiot I feel like right now. I have owned the car two years and thought it came without a manual.

Well, I drove my car for two years before I figured out how to get the gas filler opened, and you feel stupid about not finding the clove box. Pushing that damned car all the while. I did have trouble locating the puller for the gas filler. It seemed to me the location as pictured in the manual was off just a little from its actual location. Now the good news is that my owners manual was in the trunk of the car. Had it been in the concealed box I would have really been in a fix because without the manual the release for the gas filler would have really been a scavenger hunt. You are not an idiot unless we all are. A story of a real idiot was the one I heard recently. Woman took her two year old Chevy in because a light on the dash said to do so. (Check engine light or low oil pressure some of what we do refer to as IDIOT LIGHTS) Here the lady had driven the car two years and 30K and never had the hood up on the car. Had no idea that service was required. Even that may not be an idiot just painfully uniformed. But not to worry about the clove box. Just have fun filling it up. The comment about the gun prompts me to say only: Do it legal if you do it. I am a gun owner and certainly support good guys having guns (God knows the bad guys do) Just don't carry illegal. That can get you into a world of hurts. Keep in mind that a carry permit will not make you always legal. For instance. I have a carry permit but should I go into a Philadelphia or out of state I am not legal at that time. So even though I can carry I don't because its a pain in the you know what. What we need is a national carry permit where a guy could get maybe some formal training or some type of certification and then he could carry all the time just in case of a situation like this thing in Va. Too bad one of the good guys wasn't armed. They take the guns away from the wrong people in my estimation. And of course you can't right laws to stop the mentally ill. I feel for all involved. Even the poor bastard that did the shooting. At least he ended his own suffering which must have been considerable to do something so despicable. Be safe. JEH

I think I found the secret compartment about 2 or 3 years after I bought the car.

Thanks, you people are a wealth of information. I also was missing the owners manual and purchased one from the Honda web site. I believe it is from the same company that supplies Honda with the original. The price was reasonable and it looks original. So................I open the now found secret glove/storage cavity and found nothing.

Oh, now I wanna leave work so I can go look for my secret compartment. I had problems finding the gas release too. I had to stop on the way home from the dealer for gas and I was there for a good 10 minutes before I found it.

Luckily, I had a friend with an AP1 that told me about the secret compartment after about a week of ownership. It never even dawned on me that something would be there. But lo and behold, I found the owner's manual and all the receipts for service performed on the car since it was new.

As for the gas door release button, the first time I filled her up; it was about 2am and I was exhausted from working a 14 hour shift. I pull up to the gas station and look around for about 3 minutes until I finally called my friend and asked him where it was. Then when I saw it, I felt immensely stupid for not noticing it sooner.

I found the secret compartment pretty quick after I bought the car.........much easier than the gas filler door knob...I ended up calling my dad (who owned an S at the time) from the gas station and asking him how the hell you get it open.

I noticed it right away after bringing it home to check for the manuals etc. Once I showed my 7 year old daughter she thought it was the coolest thing since Disney World! She kept wanting to open and close them. This car has amazing storage for it's size.

As for the gas fill release that's a different story. I had just gotten the car and needed to pull in for some gas (very first drive at night with the top down....memories) it was late at night. I get out of the car and realize that I don't know where it is and panic (owner's manual was at home for me to read!) but luckily I was the only one in line. Once I calmed down then thought about where it was on my Civic I found it. Disaster averted.

That's why it's a good idea to open up and read the owners manual.

I had a tough time finding the oil dipstick. Who wudda thunk that they'd make it flush with the head cover!

I'm really interested in adding a small glovebox in front of the passenger seat. There's an access panel that pops off that could be made into a shallow glovebox. There's not much room behind the panel, but at least it could hold a few maps. It's a real PITA pulling something out of the secret compartment when you're weaving through traffic.

If someone gets ambitious and makes something to snap into that panel space, let us know.
