Silly question....Help

This is really silly. How do you take out the oem shift knob? I just tried unbolting it, but anymore pressure applied and I feel I'd rip off the shifter

I just loosened the locknut under the knob and spun the knob right off.

You might hold the knob to prevent twisting, but I don't remember it being very hard.
