A/C in defrost mode cheat code.

Hey guys, I've always wondered how to deactivate the A/C in defrost mode and came across this post on another site i did it and it worked, very excited about it because it always annoyed me. so here it is.

To deactivate automatic a/c feature on a 2002+ S2000:

1) Turn the ignition switch "on," but dont start the car.
2) Turn fan speed off.
3) Turn temperature knob all the way to the left (blue area).
4) Turn vent knob to all the way to the left (panel position).
5) Turn the ignitions switch "off."
6) Hold down both air recirculation button and a/c button while turning the ignition switch "on." Nothing lights up initially, keep waiting. The orange air recirculation indicator on the button will start flashing.
7) Continue holding both buttons until the orange air recirculation indicator stops flashing, then let go.

Thanks Bob, that's one'a those things that always bothered me when I was in the middle of it, but never so much that I'd spend the time to check it out.
'Much obliged.
Be well.

As good as the engineering is on this whole car, I gotta wonder why they decided it should be on in the first place??? Is the a/c actually on or just the light for some reason?

Cheers,

The a/c is on to help dehumidify the air inside the car (the main source of the fog the defroster is removing)...it is on and it does help. I don't even bother turning off the a/c during the winter, just change the temperature settings.

seems like an odd feature to have in the car. i figure it has the ability to be disabled for some particular hvac test procedure. since you've done this , does everything else work the way it used to ? You can still turn on the a/c, and off again at will, even when in defrost mode?
thanks for the info bobby. i'm intrigued. maybe i can come up with a reason for why this is possible. ok, i'll be looking for the reason why this is so, an I'll report back as soon as i can.
As I was?
thanks sarge.

I dont know if there is a way to go back to default yet i'm sure you can probably just repeat the same steps? ANywho once you have done the step the next time you turn on defrost the a/c light will still come on as normal but now you have to option to turn it off and back on as you wish. so there is really no need to go back default.

You want the a/c ON in defrost mode. It DRAMATICALLY increases the ability for the air to absorb the moisture on the windows as the a/c dehumidifies the air. Your defrost mode will not work nearly as well with the a/c off. On humid days I turn the a/c on while using the heater to make the cabin not as sticky, too. There is nearly no effect on temperature of the heater if the a/c is on.

It probably doesn't matter for you since you're in Vegas but it makes a tremendous difference in places like Houston.

The a/c with defrost was absolutely necessary when I lived in SF.

If you're trying to defrost the windows you will want the A/C running.

Seems that many people mistakenly think that A/C = cold air, which is not all the system can do.

True, while on the Cold temperature settings it does cool the air in the system, but if you have the temperature knob on hot, all it will do is dehumidify the air (remove moisture) which is exactly what you are trying to do when 'defrosting' your windows.
