rear speakers in y2k???

Folks.
I've read some stuff regarding rear speaker connections/harness in MY2000 cars.. I'd like to hook up some rear speakers in my car, and would like to know the easiest and/or the best way to wire them.
Is it true that the Mute button will not work on the rear speakers? Or that the radio plug does not have the rear speaker connections?

Any/all info appreciated.

Thanks.

From what i Heard, I think it is the o5 and up that is pre-wired for headrest speakers. Are you talking about headrest speakers or are you actually installing speakers behind the seat.

Rocket,
I'll mount aftermarket headrest speakers, but I'm thinkin' it's the same question regardless... I know that I don't have the required harness in place... I'm just trying to figure out what I need to make it work.

Thanks

Y2K? isnt that a bike with a helo engine. j/k Yes the factory radio in the ap1 has a hook up for rear speakers. If you notice on the Fade option on the radio if you turn the fade all the way to the back its like muting your radio the reason it does this is because there is no speakers plugged in to this channel. Hope that helps ya out.

Thanks Bobby..

So... You're sayin' that the 2000 radio does have the radio outputs for rear speaker hookup... That would be sweet indeed, and would simplify the process. From what I've read, the Mute won't work for the rear speakers in that model, however...

Thanks..

Even at that the headrest speakers should come with all reguired hardware. If the speakers do not mute with the actual mut button, bridge the rear speakers with the front speakers thus stoppng the....... anti-mute? lol Good Luck works on mine but yet again i took mine to a car audio shop. just play with it a bit and see what works!

oh ps also see about buying a mini amp for all of your speakes........ amkes them sound great!

The mute button works with my S-pods and they are hooked up as rear speakers.

After that, it will be the S2200 under an assumed name.

That;s great news regarding the mute with the rear speakers! I've found a couple articles that may explain why some folks have issues with it... I'll give it a shot and see if I can figure it out..

I bought the spod-like-speaker frames posted on ebay, and will give them a shot... The price sure is right!

If you put in Focals in the doors you won't need rear speakers

Do you have a link to those spod-like-speaker frames you got? How did they work out?

Siko-

Just search for "s2000 speaker" on ebay... I've purchased mine, and they're a nice kit for the price. I'll likely install them this weekend.

Scott, the fellow who sells them is a nice guy to deal with...

I'll update once I get them installed...

Hi all.
I just installed my pseudo-s-pods this Sat. I'm quite happy with the results. I found the speaker "brackets" on ebay, found some superb directions for adding the rear speaker wires to my radio harness, picked up some cheapo speakers, and installed the whole deal. Price was great, and i'm really amazed at how much more effective the speaker placement! I can run at a much lower volume and hear music quite well.

Rear speaker wiring instructions at:
http://www.keedyweb.net/Honda-S2000/...-speakers.html.

Speaker brackets purchased on ebay -- look for "s2000 speaker brackets".
Kit is nice, inexpensive, and the seller is a fine guy.

Only 1 negative issue (not with kit!)... On my 2000 model, the mute button indeed does not work for the rear speakers. this is evidently a radio issue, as the Mute goes INTO the radio, and the 4 speakers come OUT of it!

Here are some pics of the finished product.

This is an inexpensive way to go... It may not be the best, but the results are fine for me.

Kevin

Is the covering on the front of the speaker the same as you would find on a home stereo speaker? Kind of a foam like stuff?

Siko.
Yes indeed. It is foam-based... probably 1/8" thick or so. It just tucks around the mounted "bracket".

Just had my dealer install honda headrest speakers in my 00. Neither the mute button nor the fader switch works. Anybody have any ideas?

Yep... sure do.

Your mute button on your '00 will not control the rear speakers.. (they should, however, continue to mute your front speakers... It's really an issue with the '00 radio, as the mute button goes INTO the radio and the speaker wires come out... Same situation I presently have in my car...

The '00 radio harness has outputs for only front speakers...I wired in the 2 additional connectors into the harness for the rear speakers.... and I'm pretty sure my fader now works.... I guess it depends on how your dealer hooked up the additional speakers... They may have tapped into the front speaker wires instead of going through the trouble of adding the rear wire connectors to the harness..but if so, then I would think your mute would work fine...

So... they're really are limitations with the early head units...

Mike,
That's a pretty sweet setup!

Looks like a tricked-out factory option.

nice!
