XM Antenna

Having just bought an 06 stewie, I'm considering getting the stock XM-capable radio authorized and running.

I'm assuming that I have to install an XM anntenna, right? Is there any other equipment I have to add before I can sign up for the XM?

if it is stock then it should already be on the car. but if it is not go to the dealer becuase it will look better then the stupid black box that sticks to the trunk and then they know how to run the anntenna wire correctly

The car has the small black upright antenna, but I don't think that's an XM antenna..my experience with a Sirius on another car tells me that it should have the little hockey puck antenna somewhere, and it doesn't seem to have that one anywhere.

I have Sirius in my S and I do believe you have to have the antenna installed.

I know for a FACT that the last year of production of the S2000 is 2003!!!!!
After that, it will be the S2200 under an assumed name.

I installed the XM antenna and gear on my 2004. The wire harness just snaps into the tuning box for the XM. It is located in the trunk. It is not a big deal to install but the antenna only comes in the silver color. I bought the three stage paint in Rio Yellow and painted it to match. It is tricky to work with and if you have no experience painting, take it to a shop. The install is easy with good directions. It does involve drilling two holes through the trunk, but they supply a good template. I bought mine through Handa Parts. They have the install info on line. The info is at:http://www.handa-accessories.com/s2000-04.html

Thanks for the info and the link, Windy! The installation looks lengthy, but not all that difficult. The cost may just make me stay with my Sirius for now.

Sirius vs XM

I prefer Sirius over XM but the stock S2K radio just says XM. How much of a pain is it to switch over to Sirius? I don't have either yet.

I have both and also prefer Sirius. Once the FCC finally allows the two to complete their merger, we may be able to get both on once receiver. I sure hope so at least.

You will have to buy a new head-unit, remove the OEM radio, install the new head-unit and antenna and then subscribe to the service (or you can just buy one of the small Sirius or XM units and install it where it's convenient and then keep the stock radio)
