A FM transmitter for the iPod. (see Belkin. There's no provision for direct connection of a iPod to the OEM radio but there are third party suppliers who have iPod kits). Go to www.handa-accessories.com and check there. They have a kit to connect the iPod.

Better sound can be had from one of these:

http://www.usaspec.com/ipod.html (PA15-HON2) you can still use the remote controls too. Takes all of 15 minutes to install. I got mine from Crutchfield.

gonna hate FM transmitter

if you live in metro area will not work to a level that is acceptable for decent music. Plus, the cords suck. Pay the $500 from Honda to do this. Hooks up with power for the iPod.

The USA Spec unit isn't an FM, it's a plug-in hardwired adapter that's better than the Honda unit. Plus, if you have on 08 Honda says their adapter won't work and my dealer wouldn't put it in.

You said this takes 15 minutes to install. Did you pull the head unit out or were you able to hook this up without doing that?

It plugs into the CDC plug on the rear of the head unit. You have to remove the HU to plug it in.

...and you can do much better than $500 for an iPod interface. If you're thinking of spending $500 then get a new HU with iPod interface built-in.

I paid $50 for my interface, but it does not charge and play the new generation iPhones, which sucks for me because it's what I have. i just use the line in connector to play my music without charging.

I just purchased and installed the iPod interface sold by Peripheral Electronics (www.peripheralelectronics.com). It charges the iPhone 3G, allows you to control everything from the redunant radio controls and goes in pretty easily (once you get the radio out to plug it in the back). The best part was that it was $150 from Best Buy so I could buy it as an impulse purchase.

If anyone needs the MasterSheet PDF from Crutchfield on how to remove the radio and/or speakers in the 2000 - 2009 S2K's, send me a private message with your email address and I will send it over.

I saw that unit a couple of months ago but decided not to get it because it looked like too many connections. Does it require a dedicated separate power cable to the unit or does it get its power from the head unit?

I have the usa spec interface in my 07 and I can control the ipod with the dash controls the stock head unit acts as if the ipod was a CD changer I can change playlists and songs with the dash controls on the left side of the steering wheel. I installed it myself and did not have to enter a code for the head unit.

Yes I have seen an Alpine IDA X305 for $241.00. Why add an extra appliance when for a few dollars more you will improve the sound quality by a quantum jump.

It gets all of its power from the head unit. It seems to do everything the USA Spec on can do.

The Peripheral Electronics unit also allows you to add HD radio for $99 (and nothing per month).

Sounds like it's worth another look. I'll stop at Best Buy and check it out.

This thread has helped me make a decision. I got a stock radio and an ipod touch. I checked around and found a Griffin Itrip at Walmart for $59. It's an FM transmitter and it works great. My only complaint is that the "smartscan" feature isn't that smart. After jacking around with it, I found a frequency that works.

The good thing is that I can use it in my wifes car and my squad car.

I have a fm transmitter as well, but there are too many faint fm signals in my area for the unit to work effectively. I need a hardwired option.

seriously, please spend $200 (cheapest but still its no JVC) for an alpine or pioneer 3 preout headunit with usb/ipod cord. ive used the fm transmitters and the sound quality is crap (i may be a little harsh here because i went all out my sound system: alpine headunit, infinity amp with infinity kappa component speakers and a kicker amp with kicker L7 enclosure). Also, a good interference-free frequency is hard to find and will vary as you travel, even 20-30 miles.

No, they are crap and that's putting it nicely.

Just buy an aftermarket head unit with a usb. Pioneer Premier is my personal favorite because of the sound recovery tech. You need an imput adapter if you want to play out the head phone jack or a "transmitter" if you want to work it out the bottom interface. However neither of these give good sound quality.

About $50 will get you a cable that connects directly to the rear of the OEM unit that will also charge your ipod.

Thats what I use and works great.

Cans - This looks like a great solution, did you mount this anywhere or does it just hang into the foot well?

Radio Upgrade

I too want to upgrade my HU but have another issue. I want to use my Sirius unit (currently separate from my radio unit) and my itouch. I want to do it with the least bit of "untidy" stuff hanging around the dash. I also want to use the current radio controls. Any suggestions?

Nothing is visible but the cable that comes out from behind the radio in the passenger area. The larger black unit you see in the picture just stays behind the radio. Nothing to mount, sounds great, works well.

The USA-Spec unit (PA15-HON2) will let you do all that. I have one and it works well. It's about $160 from Crutchfield but shop around and you can find it cheaper.

Can you still use the dash controls with this?

Yes, nothing cosmetic or functional changes. This plugs in to the part of the factory head unit where the cd changed would go.
