Stereo Removal
I was trying to remove my stereo to install an aftermarket unit and there are 2 brackets screwed to the side of the factory stereo... How do I get this thing out or get these brackets off...
Edit: I posted a picture as requested... I circled the problem brackets with red... While I am at it I circled the little latch doo-hickey in blue... Does anyone know where to buy one of those...? Last edited by Roger_Rabbit; 06-28-2009 at 04:09 PM. |

You need to remove more then the door...that whole assembly from the vent ducts to the front of the console comes out. Once you remove that, it's easy to get to the screws that hold the brackets in place.

Pry from above the vents which are part of the radio door with a smooth tool. I use a Snapon pin removal tool. And the radio door assembly will come off. If you have an Ap2 you will need to remove the center console first

1. You need to remove the shift knob.
2. And remove the center arm rest. The whole piece has to come off. There are 6 clips holding it down. Carefully pull it up. 3. And carefully pull the radio door assembly out. The screws are exposed after you remove the radio door assembly.

There several different center consoles and some interfere with removing the radio door. On 2004 cars for instance.

I think he meant the center arm rest piece...not the center glove compartment.

Yes you need to pull that off in order to get the radio door assembly out on AP2.

I got the radio out and the new one in... It will be going back to the store though... It does not filt good enough to get the radio door closed right... I only had to take out the plastic surrounding the stereo... I did not have to remove the shifter knob or anything in that area... I still need that little latch thingy ma jig... I will be purchasing another radio in hopes of getting a better fit... Has anyone ever installed one of those DVD playes that has the screen that hides in th head unit? Do they fit?

![]() I did not have to take it out at all. All you have to do is start from the top and then pull it out thats where the clips are. Maybe some cant do it but its 100% possible and I thought pretty simple and straight forward |
