Chirp when locking and unlocking
Seemed to have lost the chirping sound that came when locking or unlocking the car remotely. Is that a setting I inadvertently changed?

Sorry if this sounds ridiculous, but does the horn still work? Could be as simple as a fuse.

Chirp? My '07 doesn't chirp. I just hear the mechanical sound of the lock.

The back of my fob has the directions for turning on or off the horn when locking the car. I have an 03 with the Honda alarm, it doesn't chirp but the horn sounds when locking the car.

ZigZag...your 07 should "chirp" if you press the lock button twice. It's never done that?

Your bird is dead. Go down to the dealership and get a new one. I think they're around $200. You could get an aftermarket one on ebay a lot cheaper. I heard the JDM ones are really sweet. I also think Mugen has one, but I haven't heard it yet. There's probably a sound clip on Youtube though.

Mine does this and I wish it didn't. A bit loud and obnoxious, imo.
Red_Fun... my keyfob has no instructions on the back like you described on yours. What does yours say and is it a factory fob? What year is your S? I put my owner's manual back in the car so I can't check it right now, but the '08 PDF I have doesn't mention anything about the horn sounding on the second press of the button... only on the "panic" button. Grrrr.

Hi Murphy. My '02 barks on the second push of the lock button, 'n I agree that it can be a bit obnoxious. Stewie's horn is downright loud. This is a benefit when your car is out of eyeshot. But..........when you hit the lock button on the keyfob the first time, your parking lamps should flash, and you can hear the doors lock with their typical precise Japanese thud. jagg |

Good grief, user error. I thought I had tried all combinations, guess not. Right, the second click on lock emits the chirp. Rather generous of Honda too. Our Passat chirps on the first click.
The sordid truth is, I park in a small parking garage. 12 hours hours later, I come back to the garage not sure where I parked. Evidently, I was not clicking twice....... Getting old is not for wimps. |

That is precisely what my car does. That is also why I very rarely hit the button the second time. For me, once is sufficient since I watch for the light flash or I can hear the doors lock. So that leads me to this: Is honking the horn the *only* purpose hitting the button the second time serves? If so, then I really can't think of any circumstance in which I would need to hit the button twice (others' needs may vary, but for me there would never be a need). I was under the impression (probably from a salesperson) that hitting the button the second time engaged a fuel or ignition disabling system. However, I can find nothing to support that in my owner's manual. There is nothing aftermarket on my vehicle so it would seem that I've been occasionally taking the effort to hit the button twice and honk the horn every once in awhile for no apparent reason other than to "enjoy" the melodious sound. Can anyone confirm if hitting the button the second time serves no other purpose than to create music for our ears?

Very interesting, I was under the same impression that the "bark" meant that the immobilizer was being armed. But then again, I have never heard anything about that from any manual or salesperson. Hmmmm.....could that second time be utterly pointless?

Ok back at home and can now look at my fob, it states to switch from silent to beep, pres and hold both the option button and the lock button for 2 seconds. In my case the option button is the trunk button. Hope this helps.

RFF: Thanks for doing that. Way above and beyond the call of duty.
I don't have the Honda alarm system so there is a distinct (highly probable) possibility these steps won't apply, but it doesn't hurt for me to try it. Well, unless that combination of buttons triggers the undocumented passenger seat ejection system which is powered be a device hidden at the bottom of the secret compartment.
