Radio controls

Sorry if this is one of those way too common questions but is it true that the controls to the left of the steering wheel become useless if I install an after market radio? What about if I install the XM converter from Honda?

The Honda XM converter uses the stock HU so the controls work. If you install an aftermarket HU and use the Modifry Plug and Play harness, the controls work. If you just install the HU without using the Modifry harness, the controls may or may not work. (and before anyone starts yelling about those other harnesses that let you use the controls...I know they exist and I also know the Modifry PnP harness works with no soldering, cutting or any thing else. It's a true plug and play harness)

i agree with kgf. the modifry harness is worth the extra $30 because it makes install a 30 minute job instead of a 1.5 hour job.

I know for a FACT that the last year of production of the S2000 is 2003!!!!!
After that, it will be the S2200 under an assumed name.

Depending on what brand unit you could also get a PAC device for about the same cost.

I have no experience with the Modifry harness but the PAC was super easy to install and you can program the buttons to do whatever you want.

I have a quick question about this. I just bought an s2000 that has an aftermarket radio installed all the dash controls work except the mute button would there be a reason for this? the mode button allows me to go from radio to cd to usb etc, if i hold it down the head until turns off the volume buttons work and the channel button allows me to either change present stations or forward the track on a cd or songs from the usb/ipod jack but for the life of me i can't figure out why the mute button doesn't work.

Thanks traveler. I have never installed a radio in a car before is it easy enough for me to do and will there be some instructions somewhere? Also, who makes the PAC?

Search for the AP2 Head Unit DIY Install thread on S2KI.

I'd also recommend Modifry's DCI. And the PnP harness if you choose to go with an Alpine HU.
