Yes it can be done. I bought a Viper 5901 system which comes with remote start but there is an added installation charge for that feature. Pretty fkn lame since I paid $500 for the damn thing, you would think it would be included. I chose not to get it since I will never use it, but it is possible.

Most shops won't do it due to liability issues. But it can be done...

I've heard of other people that had them in a manual transmission car, but personally I prefer to leave the car in gear and the ebrake on.

I'm not flaming, just asking - why would you want to do that? Is it a cold weather thing or is it just to be "cool"? Being cool can be a good enough reason, but maybe not worth spending the $$'s. Plenty of other "cool" mods.

Remote start is a great feature for people who live in cold environments. They can start the engine and even turn on the defroster from inside their house. Not very useful for us West coast people

There's suppose to be a new remote start aplication for the iPhone. I think I read $499 from BestBuy but I'm not sure if that's installed.

I originally went to BestBuy to get the 5901 installed but that $499 is not the final price. They say the cost includes installation but that is only for the basic installation. They purposely don't tell you about the added fees which will end up being $700+

I remember a guy in Tampa who had one put in. He accidentally hit the button while he was inside the shop and the car drove into a canal and sank. Be sure it's put in right.
You can research it in the Fl forums on S2ki.

remote start

HI have a remote start on my s its the viper 5701 and works just fine but there are a few complications 1. Do not ever leave it in 1st it will give up after 3 turn overs but the car will still move, 2. if you dont have 2 set of keys you will have to get another one made dosnt have to have the chip in the key but you will need a bypass modul that you will have to put the oem key in and that goes under the dash, thats abotu 30bucks so far as a shop doing it just depends best buy want do it but some small shops might. but it can be done Cost for my setup will run about 450.

Putting a remote start on a stick shift car is similar to playing Russian Roulette with and semiautomatic.

So do you run out to the car to make sure it's not in gear, and then run back inside to fire it up?

Its not that bad first off you make it a habbit to not put it in gear and us the e brake also if it does happen to be in gear and start it the viper system as im sure they all do stops if it dosnt turn over easy so it at most will go a foot maybe maybe 2 feet if you have the e-brake up if you dont hell you might be sol.. lol

modifry had a diy on this on his website with a few failsafes. if the car wasn't in neutral and the ebrake wasn't on, the car would not even turn over.

i don't know where you park, s2nasty, but 2 feet is disastrous everywhere around me.

Actually, llivn in socal during the summer, it would be very nice to have the S running the AC for a few minutes before gettn in it.

I used to have a Lincoln LS with AC seats, those were great during the summer months.

Maybe some of you like gettn in a car thats 100 degrees inside, but I'd opt not to if I could.

Meh. The S's passenger cabin is tiny. Even in Houston, which has far hotter days than SoCal, it takes no time to cool off the interior. Tint with high heat rejection helps.

I just thought it would be a cool addition. im getting the new viper not sure the #, 5901 sounds right. ill just leave the start function unconnected. should save some $ for install too. thanks for the advise guys.

Good choice man, I have that same alarm and I love it. I suggest you buy the 508D Proximitiy sensor add on, a must for people who leave their S unattended with the top down.

But the cool thing is that you get alerted on your transmitter when even your proximity is tripped. So you can run to your car and either A) kindly ask the perpetrator to step away from your car, or B) do whatever you violent people do

so that's the only place you park your car? you never go anywhere? and when you do, you just drive in a circle?

yesterday, i ran into walgreens for a few minutes. when i came out and started my car, i noticed it was in first gear. I NEVER LEAVE MY CAR IN GEAR. it made me think of this thread. if i had a remote start and i used it, my car would have been on the curb.

yea having a driveway would be nice, but you dont get those with apartments. I think s2nasty is saying that he only uses his remote start at home which would be mostly where you would use it.

I am very fortunate. I live in an apartment with a connected, two car tandem garage, and there's even room for one more car in a short driveway just outside garage.

My S spends every night indoors, safe and secure. I think it's only been outside overnight once in the last 15 months since I bought it.
