If possible, find someone with experience to ride along with. I rode with a Z06'er who finished top 20 at nationals and he really opened my eyes to how it should be.
Also, have fun!

45 psi is about 10 psi high.
Walk the course,
Walk the course,
Walk the course,
Walk the course.
Yes, walk it four times.

That's awesome. I'm jealous. I haven't driven my S since September 1st How do you find autoX events? I really want to try one. And how much did you pay?

I found the autoX because of a flyer at my car wash. But look up SCCA car clubs in your area. It costs 40 dollars, im happy to pay that sum to explore her limits. But ive got a couple more weeks in my S. i HATE picking leaves off of her in the morning!

$40 isn't bad at all. Maybe I'll have to do a few of those in between future track days. Thanks for the info.

grrr. I let Stewie down... She ran amazing but it was my lack of expeirence that killed the day. I never lost control or spun out, but I had a difficult time following the cones. I wont BS anyone. Ive got a lot to learn. But its great to know what She can do.... I do love how the rear was loose but always so controllable with the gas. I think over inflating the tires actually was a darn good benefit. Well Ill try again in 2 weeks and try not to look the fool. The moral of the story is, I accept that I was what failed. Not the car.

The way you can know the correct tire pressure in an autocross event only is to take some chalk and make 4 or 5 marks from the thread to the center of the tire then run the course. Notice how much the front tires roll by the absents of the chalk on the side walls. I start at 42 psi in the front and adjust up or down from there. The rears I start with 25 psi and that seams to work for me.

lol... thanks Java... I cant begin to tell you how pissed I was at myself. The good part is that the course is literally 5 mins from my house so I may go do some solo runs(if theres no surveliance systems at the parking lot) I walked the course at least 5 times but there was a slalom run that I kept missing the gates on. Next time Im gonna literally drive the course at 10 mph just to wrap my head around it first. But again, its super gratifying to know that the car can hold out for a lot more than I can throw at it.... for now....

I did chalk the tires and noticed the marks were gone after the 5th run... higher pressure then? The fronts held onto the chalk more than the rears...

I like to run between 42 and 45 psi with 225-45/17 on the front. On most coruses it will remove about 3/4-1" of the chaulk lines. On the rears I just leave them at 25 psi with 255-40/17. Now that I have 265-40/17's who knows. I can deal with the car when the rear slides a bit, however, a car that pushes(understeer) I just don't like.

Just bought a 2001 S2000 (well, actually put a deposit in the mail, have to get from Denver to Las Cruces, NM to fetch it in a few weeks ). I was wondering about your tires. I have been autocrossing a Miata on Kumho V710's, but I was hoping to find a good summer UHP tire that might be good enough to autocross with too. I mean you only autocross 30-45 actual minutes a year, but you drive all the rest of the time. And I don't expect to be competitive until next season after I've actually figured out the car. Or should I just get another set of tires and do the tire swap all the time?
