I can't speak to the volvo issue, but let me tell you about my cr-v. I'm a mail carrier, stop between 550-600 times A DAY, every day> It takes a 80 mile beating mostly on county roads which can be muddy, dusty, and just plain rough. (If it doesn"t rain they don't get graded in the summer) It has been one of the most reliable cars I driven the last 32 years. My vote goes to it.

My wife has a CRV for her Daily and the S2k is my daily. We love these cars.
It took us forever to find a used CRV in a manual since they stopped making them manual in 06 and even then didn't make that many. I wouldn't mind an Acura either. MDX maybe? |

We just got the 2012 CRVs in and they are all new... wider, lower with a love it or hate it back end. The CRV in general has been bullet proof for us since 1997.

For a roomier vehicle consider the Pilot. Seating for eight, quieter and better overall performance.

the pilot isn't super solid, the gas mileage is 17-19, and definitely not as powerful as a 4runner. |

my opinion[ as a volvo employee] dont go for the diesel unfortunately north american diesel isnt clean enough for the perameters set for the xc60. true story , last year we had 6 swede tech's come and do a dealer visit they brought 5 diesel models [not available in canada] and they also brought thier own barrels of diesel because " north american diesel is much too dirty" and they proceded to give us a big story explaining, the just of the conversation [from what I understood] was our refining techniques are from the stone age. all that being said id go in the other direction and get a t6 r-design in 477 electric silver with some 19 or 20's |

my XC70 is holding up well.
in my third winter season with it. driveshaft is beginning to chuggle a smidge, but with 134k on the clock, I'm not disappointed with the original's lifespan. |

Due massive number of children, I have always had a LARGE SUV, so... had a Sub for many years with the Vortec V8, sucked... got a Nav now..not sure what incredibly large V8 is in that thing..but it has the best sound system I have ever heard in a vehicle. Put the kids in the back and a DVD in the system and they are quite until the movie is over... works for us!

hehe it's kind of a chick car dude =p it's like a really nice Rav4. however i will say that if you can find one in a manual transmission, get it. despite its size, it's a pretty fun car to drive for what it is.

I did the major comparo when shopping for a SUV three months ago. I wanted the CRV to be a slam dunk, as my last 4 vehicles were Honda, but I just didn't like it, inside or out. So started with the Audi Q5, but just couldn't take the price. In an exhaustive search, which is what I end up doing with most everything I buy, we hit "almost" every dealership in the area driving everything in the same class. Some My wife then noticed that we had not seen the Kia's yet. I did not want to go this route at all and I couldn't believe that I was actually walking into the showroom when we got there, let alone considering a drive. I fought it for all I could, cause this just wasn't something that I would ever consider. We left, took a second drive in the top contenders, but at the end of the day (and I still can't believe I decided this) the Sportage won out. I really like most everything about it. The handling and balance are really good, great comfort, inside room and features. Hind sight now says that I should have gone for the turbo, but even with all of the positive reviews that I read (no negative) I still was not convinced, even with the 5 year warranty, it would be as good as it is. I have driven it on mountain roads in northwest Montana, through some of the worst snow conditions I have seen in years and it was a dream.

My final opinion became like this;
* having a SUV is stupid, because it is big, heavy, drinks a lot of fuel, I said; so, lets keep it to the point, It; * should be luxurious, * should certainly be a diesel, * should not sound like a diesel, * should be reliable, * should be safe, I don't want to buy a Honda because my family has 2already, and CRV is not luxurious enough (sounds like a diesel by the way) So, it is better to go with the XC60 D5. I've owned a bunch of Rovers over the years; I would say I'm more of a Rover guy at heart than I am any other vehicle. With that being said, I had a LR3 for a short period of time, and I HATED it! It rode to stiff, felt tiny on the inside. I've got an LR4 now, and it's light years better than the LR3s. I know that the changes weren't huge, but the small ones they made definitely made a big difference. My vote would be for an LR4 if it's in your price range, or a newer Disco 2. Mike |

I had the SUV first. An FJ Cruiser TRD SE. It is a must have living in middle TN. Then my toys followed: The S and BMW

the FJ is an awesome suv, but frogman has the TRD version. the rims alone on that thing are like $3500. they are limited ed and you can't walk into a dealer and order them, only TRD FJ owners are allowed to order them and you have to have documentation as to why you need to order them.

if you want luxurious and comfortable, FJ is not the way you wanna go. get a crossover, something with a soccer mom/grocery getter suspension so it'll be nice and cushy for ya. |

I don't know why, but Toyota doesn't bring any of those (4runner or FJ) to here so they are not available for about that amounts in Turkey

try a nice 2007 cadillac escalade, 18-20mpg and the ride will never let you down. Extreamly reliable, powerful, lots of interior room, bose stereo's, chrome all over the place, woodgrain all over the place, best looking of all suv's, and you can be proud of it....about 30k. we (wife and me) lovvvve to travel in it. Time is running out. Enjoy yourself now.

Yeah, except it's a piece of shit GM! I had an H2 for a couple of months, biggest mistake of my life!! I went through TWO front hubs in 7K miles. ANd, that was just the tip of the iceberg. Don't get me wrong, I think Escalades are very good looking trucks, but unfortunately they are Amerikun made! Mike |

Toyota
I have two words for you: Land Cruiser! I have a 1989 (the boxy one) and a 1999 (V8 power). Both are great trucks. Very well made in Japan by highly intelligent and crafty Japanese workers. Can't beat `em.

We've got the S2000/ FJ Cruiser combo too (along with my Nissan Frontier S/C). Love the FJ except for two things - the visibility is like looking out of a bunker, and it burns premium just like the S (only about 2X as much per mile).

If you still want to maintain the "fun" in driving during winter, i suggest a subaru. Their awd system is much better that the crv. Get an outback if you want clearance, but a wrx for fun! I'm not saying crv is not dependable. crv's will get stuck or slip/slide where subaru won't.
If i had more money i would buy a Vdub v10 tdi Touareg. WOW, best sporty suv out there. Nice balance of an suv to be very capable both on and off road. Porche Cayenne on road, hummer off road (w/right tires, not stock like those youtube videos)! I bought an ML350 since it was cheaper. Very comfy and awd system is good w/decent torque. 22mpg is what i get on hwy w/v6. I was about to get an xc90, but it felt and looked "cheap". Exterior is sexy though. The choice is yours. How will you drive in winter? Slow or fast like s2k? Do you drift? Do you have large family? Do you go off roadin/muddin? Etc. |

I will drive the SUV like the S2k. But, of course it can't be special as the S2k...
I checked Subaru last week, the prices were pretty high, here. But, I liked their new XV thingy, also the interior looks much much better than all other Subarus might get one but it can't be one of the orange colored ones |
