No S2000 yet but I'm afraid I might fall in love and when it's with a car one should do extensive research.

I've neen running an '86 Porsche 911 at track events for eight years now and have had a great time. However, I've moved into the advanced run group and have a problem running with 300-500hp computer controlled monsters with track tires. I ruin their rythym and they mine.

I could modify the '86 and get a lot of track speed back, but then it's uncomfortable on the street, expensive etc.

I could upgrade to a newer Porsche, but those in my price range can bite you big time on repairs. As a sufferer of potentially permanent carreerus interruptus I'd like to avoid that.

From my perspective, The S2000 could be a Boxster S built by Honda.
The Hondas we've had ( civics,CRV) have been tough and reliable.
If the S2000 drives well it may be the answer.

Hope to look at one in a few days.

Honda gives you a built, durable, and very beautiful car very inexpensivly. I got mine for 5 grand. They're worthy of any track.

Welcome to the site.

If you are looking toward the smaller Porsches, I would suggest the Cayman over the Boxster. You still won't be able to run with the 300 HP monsters in the straights, but you will hang with them in the corners.

I know for a FACT that the last year of production of the S2000 is 2003!!!!!
After that, it will be the S2200 under an assumed name.

I am a former P-car guy. Owned a number of the 2.4S's, and 3 litre Carreras. Loved those cars, but eventually each of them became leakers. Bought a Boxster S last year, very low miles, babied. Blew up and left me with a $15k repair bill. Sold it and bought an AP1 and have not looked back.

It is in every sense a true sportscar. I cannot imagine a better track car. Better balanced than a 911 (what isn't?), and plenty of engineering head room to make the car pretty much as fast as you want to go. For a fraction of the cost to pump up a 911.

In fact, rode in an AP1 last weekend with a super charger. The owner claimed it dyno'd 390 and the wheel. A terrifying ride, that!

Anyway, go drive one. Let us know what you think of spooling up from 6k to 9k. Makes a stock 911 look pedestrian.

And buy an LSD for either of those. I've heard from people who've added LSDs to Boxsters and Caymans that its the best money they've spent.

If you buy either, buy a drivetrain warranty. And never, under any circumstances, leave home without it paid in full!
